Dale Shaffer time capsule planned
SALEM - In recognition of the addition of the Dale Shaffer Research Library to the campus of the Salem Historical Society, the burial of a time capsule is being planned. The Dale Shaffer Legacy Time Capsule burial is scheduled for May 5. Judi Allio serves as time capsule chair with generous contributions from Salem Welding Co., Butech-Bliss, Stark Memorial Inc., and Henry Spack.
Because of the foresight and generous donation of Dale E. Shaffer, Salem historian, the society in August 2012 had dedicated this library which also houses its offices, meeting room, gift shop and industrial/transportation exhibits. The intent of the time capsule is not only to commemorate the life and contributions of Shaffer but share with future Salem citizens of the time period in which the capsule was buried when it will be reopened in 2063.
The time capsule committee is seeking items for possible inclusion. Content suggestions may include: American flag, Holy Bible, personal letters, news articles, 2013 phone book, toys, church directories, menus, business and organization brochures, Salem photographs, school information, magazines, stamps, credit card, cell phone, etc. All suggestions will be considered by the time capsule committee. Items must be submitted before March 20. Plans are to display the proposed contents in April prior to being readied for burial in the lawn of the library at the Dale Shaffer Way entrance. For more information call the society at 330-337-8514.

CCBDD invites community to game
LISBON - The Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities (CCBDD) is celebrating Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month throughout March. The theme is "When Good People Work Together, Great Things Happen."
CCBDD would like to convey to residents that opportunities for citizens with developmental disabilities to function as independently and productively as possible must be fostered in the community. The most effective way to increase this awareness is through everyone's active participation in community activities and the openness to learn and acknowledge each individual's contribution, regardless of their disability.
"This is a time when our organization focuses on encouraging the public to better understand the individuals we serve," said CCBDD Superintendent Bill Devon. "They go to school and to work. They volunteer. They are your neighbor. They are your friend. CCBDD encourages everyone to take time to get to know someone with a developmental disability because, When Good People Work Together, Great Things Happen," he said.
The community are invited to attend the clients vs staff basketball game at 6:30 p.m. March 27 at David Anderson High School. For information call Melissa McCauley at 330-424-7788.
