SALEM - The trustees and officers of the Salem Historical Society held a morning "brain-storming" session recently. The purpose was to review the past year and plan for 2013. For 2012, the greatest memory was the Aug. 7 dedication of the Dale Shaffer Research Library. Over 400 people attended and viewed the newest building, now numbering four buildings. The membership goal for the year was 65 new members on the 65th anniversary of the society. This goal was exceeded with 86 new members. It was also reported that current membership is 648 annual members and 99 life members.
Plans for 2013 were suggested and are being refined with plans for a book sale in February, 41st Founders Day Dinner in April, burial of time capsule at Shaffer Library in May, transforming the old meeting room into a music and athletic exhibit area, while opening the museum in May for the 43rd season. Other events will be shared after being finalized. For further information on the activities of the Salem Historical Society call 330-337-8514.
