February 26, 2013
Salem News

Firefighters from Perry Township work on extinguishing a semi truck fire on state Route 9 in the area of Stewart Road reported at 8:08 a.m. Monday. Perry Township Police Chief Mike Emigh, who provided the photo, said the driver, Joseph Thomas Jr. of East Rochester, told him he heard a pop before the fire started and attempted to get the truck off of the road to a safe place but was unable to because of the flames. He escaped without injury. After the fire was out, the truck, which had been hauling corn, was towed from the scene by Davidson Towing. Fire Chief Bruce Whitcher said the cause of the fire, which did not reach the fuel tanks, was undetermined. Winona firefighters responded for mutual aid. (Submitted photo)
