SALEM - Virginia C. Smith, 91, of Hudson, Ohio, formerly of Salem, died at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's Lutheran Home in North Canton.
She was born Feb. 13, 1922 in Johnstown, Pa., a daughter of the late John Wharton and Margaret Myra (Foster) Calhoun.
She was a physical therapist at Salem Community Hospital from 1965 to 1980.
She was preceded in death on July 14,1984 by her husband Marklin T. Smith whom she married May 28, 1948.
She was a World War II U.S. Army veteran where she attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant. She was a former member of Salem First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Anna Jean (Richard) Miller of North Canton; two brothers, John (Eileen) Calhoun of Lexington and Robert (Joyce) Calhoun of Connecticut; a sister Margaret Bennett of Elmira, N.Y.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Beth Young.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Irwin officiating. A time of visitation will be held at 10 a.m. prior to the service with an Eastern Star Service. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park.
