Boy Scouts Troop 80 announces Eagle Scout awards

NORTH LIMA - Troop 80, Boy Scouts of America, chartered to Mount Olivet United Church of Christ, announces the presentation of the Eagle Scout Award to Kent Hilderbrand, Parker Winkel and Sebastian Calvin.

Hilderbrand is the son of Donna Slagle and Kurt Hilderbrand of Poland. He has been involved in scouting since 2004. He has earned his Tiger, Bear, Wolf, Webelo and Arrow of Light awards in Cub Scout Pack 116 in Greenford. He joined Troop 80 in 2007 and has had troop positions of senior patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, quartermaster, and scribe.

While a member of Troop 80 Kent was elected to the Order of the Arrow and is an brotherhood member of Wapashuwi Lodge 56. He is currently the troop's OA representative and Chief of the Neatoka Lodge. Kent has camped a total of 92 nights, completed over 181 hours of service projects and has earned a total 36 merit badges along with the four 2010 centennial merit badges. He has attended four years of summer camp at Camp Manatoc and Beaumont Scout Reservation. He was also a member of GWRC Troop 1323 at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree in Fort AP Hill, Virginia and participated in a 14 day 125 mile backpacking trip at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, in 2011. In 2012 he participated in a 50 mile canoe trip in Algonquin Providence Park, Canada. Kent has also earned the God and Country (Episcopal Church) Award, World Conservation Award, Tote and Chit, Fire and Chit, Fifty Miler, Historic Trails awards, Paul Bunyan, Leave No Trace, 2010 Centennial Award, and Emergency Preparedness Award.

Sebastian Calvin

For his Eagle Scout service project, he planned, coordinated, gathered materials and supervised the installation of handicap accessible bathroom fixtures at St. James Episcopal Church. He is a sophomore at South Range High School where he is on the varsity track team and a member of High School Marching and Concert bands. His future plans include attending college for a degree in pharmaceutical. Kent is a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Boardman and serves as acolyte and participates in the youth group.

Winkel, son of Laurie and Tod Winkel of North Lima. He has been involved in scouting since 2004. He has earned his Tiger, Bear, Wolf, Webelo and Arrow of Light awards in Cub Scout Pack 116 in Greenford. He joined Troop 80 in 2007 and has had troop positions of senior patrol leader, patrol leader and assistant patrol leader.

Parker has camped a total of 76 nights, completed over 77 hours of service projects and has earned a total 33 merit badges along with the four 2010 centennial merit badges. He has attended four years of summer camp at Camp Manatoc and Beaumont Scout Reservation.

He participated in a 14 day, 125 mile backpacking trip at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico in 2011. In 2012 he participated in a 50 mile canoe trip in Algonquin Providence Park Canada. Parker has also earned the, World Conservation Award, Tote and Chit, Fire and Chit, Paul Bunyan, Fifty Miler, Historic Trails awards, 2010 Centennial Award and National Camping Awards.

For his Eagle Scout service project, he planned, coordinated, gathered materials and supervised the construction of display cases for the church.

Parker is a senior at South Range High School where he is a member of the National Honor Society. His future plans include attending college for a master's degree in engineering. Parker is a member of the church of Christ and participates in the youth group and as junior deacon.

Calvin, son Vicki and William Calvin of North Lima. He has been involved in scouting since 2004. He has earned his Tiger, Bear, Wolf, Webelo and Arrow of Light awards in Cub Scout Pack 116 in Greenford. He joined Troop 80 in 2007 and has had troop positions of senior patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, scribe and troop guide.

Sebastian has camped a total of 46 nights, completed over 126 hours of service projects and has earned a total 26 merit badges along with the four 2010 centennial merit badges. He has attended four years of summer camp at Camp Manatoc and Beaumont Scout Reservation. Sebastian has also earned the, World Conservation Award, Tote and Chit, Fire and Chit, Fifty Miler, Historic Trails awards, 2010 Centennial Award.

For his Eagle Scout service project, he planned, coordinated, gathered materials and supervised the construction of a 1/4 mile natural trail for Paradise United Church of Christ.

Sebastian is a sophomore at South Range High School where he is a member of the high school concert and marching bands, soccer, cross country, and track teams and a member of the student council. Sebastian is a member of Paradise United Church of Christ and participates in the youth group.

The court-of-honor ceremony is slated this month at Mount Olivet UCC.Troop 80 is part of the Whispering Pines District, Greater Western Reserve Council. Scoutmaster is Tod Winkel. Meetings are held 7 p.m. Tuesdays at Mount Olivet United Church of Christ.
