Plans under way for East Palestine Fair
EAST PALESTINE - The 126th annual East Palestine Fair will return to Market Street on May 23-26. The fair began in 1887 at the fairgrounds, now the Village Park.
In 1935, American Legion Post #31 brought the fair to Market Street. In 1999, the fair was moved to a side street due to construction and, for many reasons, did not return to Market Street. Following last year's event, the legion announced that it would no longer sponsor the fair.
The East Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce has stepped up to continue the street fair tradition. The chamber will work closely with the legion to ensure that the nostalgia of past events transitions smoothly.
Bates Amusements of Wintersville is providing the midway rides and games.
People interested in assisting with the fair on a volunteer basis are invited to a meeting at 7 p.m. Friday at the Community Center.
