Doris Lillian (Thompson) Holmes, 93, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Center Ridge Health Care Campus in North Ridgeville, Ohio, following a lengthy illness.
She resided in Salem, Ohio, since 1967, and was born July 26, 1919, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Doris was a homemaker and worked as a cook throughout the community. She played the guitar, sang with a trio as a young lady in Canada and in church, enjoyed plants and flowers, feeding the birds and watching them. Her life was centered on serving Christ and attending Holiness Church services. She attended Harvest Fellowship Church of the Nazarene in Grafton.
Mrs. Holmes is survived by her daughter, Erma Wood (Rev. Max Wood) of Grafton; a son, Wayne Holmes of Six Lakes, Mich.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorene (Cuddy) Harlowe of Ontario, Canada; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Manley Earl Holmes; a brother, Orville Thompson; and parents, Ezra and Edna Thompson.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 30, at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second St., Elyria.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Max Wood, Harvest Fellowship Church of the Nazarene, will officiate. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Beloit, Ohio.
