BL’s Lattanzio takes 170-pound OVAC title

WHEELING - Big Red held on to capture the title on Saturday at the 60th annual Ron Mauck OVAC Wrestling Tournament held at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.

Steubenville led all teams with 267.5 points, followed by Parkersburg South (257), Wheeling Park (197), Brooke (139) and Beaver?Local (132.5).

Oak Glen finished 13th overall with 74 points; Edison with 15th with 69; East Liverpool was 16th with 66; and Wellsville finished 31st with 29 points.

Beaver?Local senior Dan Lattanzio was the lone area wrestler to capture an OVAC title.

Lattanzio captured the 170-pound crown by defeating Caldwell's Kale?Rayner, the No. 1 seed, by a 10-6 decision in the finals.

Lattanzio entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed, but wrestled as the top dog.

On his way to the title tilt, Lattanzio defeated:?Weir's Christian Wiley (pin, 2:56), Buckeye Local's Tristan Jones (9-4), St. Clairsville's Seth Benge?(8-2) and Parkersburg South's Drake Mills (3-1).

Lattanzio beat the top three seeds in the tournament:?Rayner (No. 1), Mills (No. 2) and Benge (No. 3).

East Liverpool's Alex Potts took third place at 106 pounds.

The No. 2 seed entering the tournament, Potts earned a 10-6 decision over Cambridge's Dalton Wood to earn third place.

Also at 106, Beaver?Local's Jack Dawson finished in fifth place after winning a 3-0 decision against Wheeling Park's Tyson Lira.

Beaver Local's Josh Henderson took second place at 113 pounds. Henderson lost in the title match to Parkersburg South's Lance Hill by tech fall, 19-4. Hill is now a three-time OVAC champion.

At 120 pounds, Oak Glen's Josh Cornell took fifth place by defeating Caldwell's Tyler Wiley, 8-7.

East Liverpool's Cody Oiler finished in eighth place.

Oak Glen's Kyle Mack finished fourth at 126 pounds after dropping the third place match, 3-0, to Indian Creek's Kyle Moffit.

Ron Foster took sixth place at 132 pounds for Beaver?Local.

Daniel Hasson finished in seventh place for the Beavers at 138 pounds.

Oak Glen's Brodie Bittinger finished in fifth place, defeating Weirton Madonna's Garrett Hypes by default injury in his final match.

At 195 pounds, East Liverpool's John Miscuk took fourth place, falling to Wheeling Park's Geremy Paige by fall (1:40) in the third place match.

Wellsville's lone placer was Seth Bloor who took third place at 220 pounds. In the third place match, Bloor beat Martins Ferry's Zac Coole, 3-2.

Beaver Local's Cody Green took eighth place at 220 pounds.
