SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1943 plans to meet for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 15 at Adele's Place.

SHS '69 lunch

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1969 will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. today at BB Rooners.

SHS '47 breakfast

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1947 will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Jan. 17 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club. All members and guests are welcome.

DAHS '57 breakfast

LISBON - Members of the David Anderson High School Class of 1957 plans to meet for breakfast at 10 a.m. Jan. 17 at the Taste of Country.

United CED quilting

HANOVERTON - The United Local Community Education Department is sponsoring a beginning quilting class, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., beginning on Jan. 14. The six-session class will also meet on Jan. 28, Feb. 4, 11, 25, and March 4. During the class, participants will learn to make quilted place.mats and matching napkin rings. Cost is $15. Kathy Taucher is the instructor. To register, and to find out what materials to bring to class, call the superintendent's office at 330-223-1521.

Greenford '58 lunch

GREENFORD - The Greenford High School Class of 1958 will have lunch at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 17 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club. All members and friends are invited.

CWU meeting set

SALEM - Mark Altomore will speak when Church Women United meet on Jan. 28 in the parlor at the education building at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. The 1 p.m. fellowship will be hosted by women from the First Presbyterian and First Baptist churches. Altomore has been with Lamb's House, a Bible counseling ministry, since 2002. Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month. All women of all faiths and denominations are welcome.

Ruritans host party

DAMASCUS - Damascus Ruritans recently enjoyed their Christmas party. Fifty-two members and guests were served a meal prepared by the ladies of the Damascus United Methodist Church. Member Jay Lucas asked the blessing, David Denny led the group in singing "America" and Secretary Darlene Snyder read the list of members with December birthdays and wedding anniversaries.

President Dave Wingett presented a motion from the board to donate money to a needy family and the remainder of the business was postponed until the January meeting. Ohio District Ruritan Zone Six Governor Eric Augustein installed the new club officers for 2013: President Wingett, Vice President Rick Bell, Secretary Snyder, Treasurer Roger Smith; and Al Lutz, Denny, Walt Lautzenheiser and Roy Johnson, directors. The club is celebrating 60 years of community service and was chartered in December1953. "Warrior Explosion," a musical, was presented by 50 students of the West Branch Middle School under the direction of Krista Clay.

Ziering visits Calcutta

CALCUTTA - Actor Ian Ziering visited Ivywood Spa and Wellness Center in Calcutta on Dec. 27. Ziering has appeared in Beverly Hills 90210, Dancing With the Stars, and That's My Boy. During his visit he demonstrated and discussed the benefits of the galvanic spa, an electronic tool used at Ivywood to lift and firm facial skin. Ziering said he uses this machine himself to meet the aesthetic demands of the television and film industry.

TOPS 1380 meeting

SALEM - TOPS 1380 met Jan. 7 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church for its first meeting of 2013. Barb Baughman led the TOPS pledge and prayer, while the KOPS pledge was recited by Margaret Phillips, Cora Jean Briggs and Barb May. Barb May was congratulated for reaching KOPS status. Eleanor May read for the "circle of light." Baughman and her husband, Larry, were recognized for their anniversary.

LHS '43 lunch

LEETONIA The Leetonia High School Class of 1943 plans to meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Das Dutch Haus in Columbiana. All classes are welcome.

R-Weigh groups meet

SALEM - The R-Weigh weight support groups met Monday at the First Friends Church. Members recorded a loss of 23 pounds over the holidays. Karen Pauline presided and welcomed the members to the new meeting place. Carol Held presented the exchange diet information and the importance of keeping a calorie chart with more on the subject next Monday. Members were asked to set a goal for the month of January. A brochure of rules and awards for 2013 was given to the members. Goalies for the weeks were JoAnne Bogdan, Shirley Dias and Ruth Miller. Good losers were Francie Tuel, Margie Dale, Edie Sternburg, Colleen Wafler, Diane Hart, Doris Senior and Jeni Alwood. New members are welcome. For more information call 330-332-1078.

Quilt Group meeting

CANFIELD - That Quilt Group I Belong To will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at Fair Park. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The two owners from Village Quilts in Canfield will discuss "The History of Quilting" and bring items for purchase. For membership information contact Mary Rose Nordquist at

AARP tax counseling

SALEM - AARP tax counselors will prepare tax forms, free of charge, starting Feb. 5 at the Columbiana County Office on Aging in the Memorial Building on East State Street. Taxpayers with income up to $60,000, disabled, and senior citizens are eligible for this free service. Participants must have no more than five stocks or bonds and must bring last year's tax forms and property tax from the previous year. Appointments will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call the Office on Aging to make an appointment at 330-332-1163. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

Fair secretary honored

COLUMBUS - Teresa Unkefer, Columbiana County Fair secretary, received first place for the Fair Book Cover in a Medium Size Fair Category at the 2013 Ohio Fair Managers Association Convention in Columbus.
