LEETONIA- The Water Office hours have been changed to better accommodate customers, Water/Sewer Clerk Sue Simpson announced at the Village Council regular meeting Wednesday night.
The new hours will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday; and 9 a.m. to noon Friday. Customers with after-hours emergencies can call 330-427-6721.
Simpson also reported that due to inclement weather, the department's meter reader has been delayed. She said bills will be mailed on Friday and due on Jan. 18, an extension of three days.
State Street to be closed: Village Administrator Gary Phillips reported that State Street between Hazel and Lisbon streets will be closed beginning today while a collapsed sewer line is being repaired. He said the repair is tentatively scheduled to be started on Monday and that the roadway will be blocked for preparation and materials. The line collapsed two weeks ago, creating a small sink hole in the eastbound lane.
Coke Ovens fund raiser: One page calendars are being sold for $2 each as a fund raiser for the Cherry Valley Beehive Coke Ovens restoration project. There are four different calendars from which to choose, each featuring a different historical photograph. The calendars are available at the Mayor's Office and Water Office.
Coke Oven Intern Justin Hite also reported to council that he is attempting to secure a $150,000 state grant through the Recreational Trails Fund program for the project, as well as a grant of $2,500 to clean up invasive species at the site.
Council president: Council re-elected Dan Summers as council president for 2013. This is the last year of Summers' term and he said he will possibly be retiring after its completion.
Next meeting: The next regular council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 16 at Village Hall, preceded by a Water/Sewer Committee meeting at 6:30 p.m.
