DAMASCUS - The Damascus Garden Club, a member of the Garden Club of Ohio Inc., met on Dec. 13 at the Damascus Friends Church with 17 members present. The session began in the church's meeting room where Marilyn Brumbaugh and guest, Carol Grove, conducted a PowerPoint presentation as part of the December program. Guest Lindsey Knoedler operated the computer/projector. The program critiqued the members' floral exhibits that were on display as part of the Dec. 8 Light Up Damascus celebration. Treasurer Hilda Spack said that dues for 2013 are currently being collected. The Community Care committee thanked Val Knoedler for the bud vases she provided for the recent community blood drive. Ginny Huffman, Ways and Means chair, distributed the club's 2013 Damascus gardens calendars to members. Calendars are $15 and available by contacting a member.
Under old business, Stoffer thanked all who decorated for the season at the post office, Pearce House, and the township park. A thank-you was extended to Sandy Kilmer for inviting members to her home to prepare their exhibits for the club's floral exhibit as part of Light Up Damascus at the Damascus Friends Church.
Under new business, a motion was made to provide a donation to Meissner's service for their contribution of electricity during the Light Up Damascus season. The motion passed unanimously. Kilmer announced that the club's Light Up Damascus decorations will be removed on Jan. 3, weather permitting. Jan. 8 is the make-up date. Rhonda Mitchell said that hostess slots and committee positions for 2013 still need to be filled. Lee Kuentz reported that members are needed to chair and plan a possible flower show in 2013. Stoffer thanked the officers and members for their support through 2012.
At the meeting's conclusion, Kuentz installed the 2013 officers. A luncheon was held in the church's cafe with hostess Kuentz and co-hostesses Knoedler and Pat Hoopes serving a hot chicken casserole, salad, and a decorated angel food cake for dessert. Christmas table service and poinsettias graced the tables.
