ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Day 1 of the America's Best Value Inn Tournament at St. Clairsville was a successful one for the Oak?Glen wrestling team.

After the first day of competition on Thursday, the Golden Bears find themselves tied for second place. Dover leads the overall standings with 107.5 points, while Oak Glen and Morgan are tied for second place with 98 points.

"Every wrestler is still in contention to place which is nice," Oak Glen head coach Patrick McGillian said.

Individually, Josh Cornell (120 pounds) and Kyle Mack (126) lead the way for the Golden Bears in pool action. Both wrestlers are 4-0 thus far in the tournament.

Danny?Wyke (113), Alex Shuman (132), Nick Tice (138), Brodie Bittinger (160) and Barry Strum (195) are all also undefeated for Oak?Glen.

Tice is 3-0, Strum and Shuman are both 2-0 and Wyke and Bittinger are both 1-0.

Also, Avery Flowers (132) is 2-1, Patrick Arneault (145) and Will?Hogan (152) are both 2-2 and Noah Mills (220) is 1-2.

Finally, Noah Flowers (170) is 0-2, and Ryan Bebee (106) is 0-3.

"I was very happy with how the day went," McGillian said. "We wrestled very-technically sound. We wrestled with a lot of intensity. That is a big improvement over our last couple of matches. We have been in a slump our last few matches, but we have gotten some victories."

The wrestling continues at 10 a.m. today. There will be three more rounds of pool action before the finals.

"We are still in the hunt," McGillian said. "We earned a lot of bonus points in the first round, and that is keeping us in it."
