Blood drive planned at hospital
SALEM - Salem Community Hospital will sponsor an American Red Cross blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 9 in the hospital's second floor classrooms. Past donors who have not given blood since Nov. 14 are eligible. New donors are welcome.

Salem Care Center still needs new name
SALEM - Suggestions are still being accepted for the Salem Care Center's "Name the Facility Contest." Ideas may be submitted to: Salem Care Center, Attention: Jan Powers, 1985 E. Pershing St., Salem, Ohio 44460. The winner will receive a $250 gift certificate to Giant Eagle. The winner will be announced at a dedication ceremony, to be announced, once renovations are complete. The center offers 27 private rooms, a state-of-the-art therapy gym, beauty salon, and a newly renovated dining room.
County Health Dept. offers SafeServ
LISBON - The Columbiana County Health Department is now offering a certification for those concerned with preventing food-related illnesses. The food safety certification known as ServSafe is a nationally known program, which is now being offered by the health department. The program seeks to prevent flu season and other food contamination issues from affecting local food supplies. Food borne illnesses can cause fever, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps similar to the flu. Prevention tactics should include washing hands, separating raw foods, proper thawing techniques and promptly chilling leftovers.
