Virginia Mae (Hilliard) Cannon

SALEM - Virginia Mae (Hilliard) Cannon (fka Floyd), 95, of Salem, died at 5:45 a.m. Monday at Essex of Salem No. 1.

She was born on Aug. 17, 1917 in Salem, the daughter of the late Walter Sr. and Ella (Brown) Hilliard.

She retired in 1981 as a dietician at the Salem Community Hospital Dietary Department after 20 years. She had also worked at Hendricks Candy and the Atlantic and Pacific (A&P) Grocery Store. Virginia has also lived in Florida and Kentucky. She was a long time member of the Holy Trinity English Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her children, Crail William Floyd of Mansfield, Thomas Walter Floyd of Palm Bay, Fla., John Wendell Floyd, David Wayne Floyd and Sarah Lynn Kleinman, all of Salem; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grand children.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her second husband Donald Cannon in 1979.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen and Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Connie Sassinella officiating. The burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery.

A time of visitation will be observed from noon to 2 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
