LEETONIA - A 70-year-old Rogers resident was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries Monday after failing to yield at a stop sign at the intersection of state Routes 558 and 164 in Fairfield Township.
The Lisbon Post of the Highway Patrol is still investigating the two-vehicle crash that injured four people.
According to the patrol report, Florence A. Matheny was westbound on state Route 558 in a 1998 Chevy Lumina when she failed to yield for the stop sign at the state Route 164 intersection and was struck by Jawna R. Stokes, 31, of Columbiana.
Stokes was southbound on Route 164 in a 2000 Pontiac Grand AM when the accident happened at 9:47 a.m. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Matheny's passengers, Mary Margaret Matheny, 41, Rogers, and Janus R. Moffett, 49, East Palestine, were also taken to the Youngstown hospital, according to the report.
Florence Matheny was the only one in need of a medical airlift.
The accident scene, in which traffic on Route 558 must stop and those on Route 164 do not, has seen many accidents, perhaps once every month or three, in recent years.
