WELLSVILLE - The Tigers are hard workers.
The new season began on a high note for the Wellsville wrestling team as sophomore standout Seth Bloor (220 pounds) finished first at the Rink Link invitational this past Saturday down at Union Local High School.
Bloor and the rest of the talented Tigers' team are looking for another strong showing this weekend as Wellsville will take part in the King of the Hill Potter Classic at Potter Fieldhouse at East Liverpool High School.
"The strength of the team this year is their hard work and their work ethic," Wellsville head coach Steve Leasure said.
"All the kids that I have this year show dedication to their sports."
The Tigers enter this season come off of a solid season last year.
"Our season went well last year," Leasure said.
Joe Dowling (145) and Vance Thomas (195) both graduated last year.
Wellsville returns a solid group of wrestlers this season. The returners are senior Adam Harless (182), juniors Eric Hardman (152) and Philip Thrasher (126) and sophomores Bloor and Blake Johnston (145).
Thrasher is a district qualifier as is Bloor. Bloor also placed at the OVAC Tournament. Bloor finished fourth.
Freshman Dan Monte (132) is a talented newcomer to the Tigers' lineup.
The Tigers facing a duanting schedule this season. Wellsville will spend most of the season competing against larger schools, such as the ones the Tigers faced last weekend at Union Local and the ones they will see this weekend at East Liverpool.
"This year's schedule will be tough for us because we are a small school, but it is a good schedule," Leasure said.
The Potter Classic is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. today. Wrestling will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and the tournament finals are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Teams from Ohio, west Virginia and Pennsylvania will be competing at the tournament.
