salem -Miriam Mae Shearer, 96, of Salem, died at 11:28 a.m. Saturday at the Courtyard at Lexington.

She was born April 11, 1916 in Massillon, Ohio; a daughter of the late James C. and Myrtle (Mathie) Miller. She lived in the Salem area most of her life. She was married to Howard E. Shearer Jr. on Nov. 30, 1935 and who preceded her in death Feb. 1, 1998. She was a housewife and a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Circle group. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star at the Salem Masonic Temple.

She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne (Edwin R.) Smith of Salem; two sons Howard E. (Frances [Keylor]) Shearer, III, of Delaware, Ohio; and James E.(Ann-companion) Shearer, of Salem; a brother Robert (Phyllis) Miller of Richmond, Va.; also two additional sisters-in-law, Bette Miller and Shirley Miller; nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by four sisters, Eileen Setterlin, Nellie Miller, Betty Huff, and Lillian Seifert; five brothers, James, Andrew, Denton, Carson, and William; one grandchild, Todd Shearer; and a great-grandchild, Joseph David Blackburn.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Alan Smearsoll officiating, a time of visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Salem.
