County grand jury returns 28 indictments

LISBON - The Columbiana County Common Pleas Court grand jury issued 11 open indictments this week. Additionally, the grand jury examined 30 cases, issuing 17 secret indictments. Indictments were not issued in two cases.

Joel D. Possage, 34, Commerce Street, Wellsville, is charged with felonious assault with a firearm specification. Possage reportedly attempted to use a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle, a Smith and Wesson .357-caliber Magnum revolver and a Glock 9 mm Lugar handgun to harm Wellsville Police Chief Joe Scarabino, Wellsville Patrolman Jeff Weekly and Liverpool Township Lt. Justin Wright on Oct. 4.

Kathy J. Diantonio, 58, East Fourth Street, Salem, is charged with aggravated arson after allegedly trying to set fire to her own home on Oct 12.

Lester D. Russell, 31, Commerce Street, Wellsville, is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery for allegedly using a knife to attempt to rob two Wellsville businesses. Court documents allege Russell attempted to rob both the BP Station on Lisbon Street on Oct. 18 and McGraw's Drive Thru on Main Street on Oct. 20.

Robert L. Bembry, 48, West Pershing Street, Salem, is charged with burglary and safe cracking. According to court documents, Bembry on Oct. 25 went into office and took $590 from the safe at the Guilford Lake Grill, East Lake Road, Lisbon.

Michael A. Howard, 26, Danbury Avenue, Wellsville, is charged with breaking and entering. Court records accuse Howard of going into Gibby's Mini Mart, Clark Avenue, Wellsville, on July 15 with the purpose of committing a felony crime.

John W. Jarvis II, 35, Beech Street, Wellsville, is charged with possession of criminal tools and breaking and entering. According to court documents, Jarvis allegedly on Aug. 2 entered a neighboring home on Beech Street, belonging to Michael Johnson, with the intent of committing a felony crime. In his possession, during the break in, Jarvis reportedly had a leather bag containing a homemade ski mask, hammer, pair of pliers, zip ties, flashlight and latex gloves.

Chad A. Smith, 38, Sprucevale Road, East Liverpool, is charged with felonious assault for allegedly using either a screwdriver or a knife or both to harm Bradley Gibson on Sept. 8.

Andrew J. Sandora, 58, state Route 14, New Waterford, is charged with three counts of OVI for allegedly having both marijuana and alcohol in his system while driving on Sept. 29. According to court documents, Sandora already has been convicted of OVI twice in 2003 and three times in 1992.

Christie L. Thrasher, 32, and Jason N. Barnes, 25, both of the same residence on Sixth Street, Wellsville, are charged with two counts trafficking in drugs and two counts possession of drugs. On Sept. 27 both Barnes and Thrasher allegedly had heroin and cocaine believed to be prepared for sale. Additionally, on the same date they are both accused of having Amphetamine and Buprenorphine in their possession. Additionally, there was a specification stating the pair had both $180 and digital scales.

Joseph D. Johns, 27, Lynchburg Road, Kensington, is charged with theft for allegedly taking two shotguns and a semi-automatic pistol belonging to Lisa Linrode sometime from July 1 through Aug. 30.
