LISBON - The East Liverpool man accused of committing sex crimes with four minors while posing as a woman has pleaded innocent by reason of insanity.

Aaron L. LaGrand, 33, will undergo a mental evaluation ordered by Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge C. Ashley Pike before the case proceeds any further.

LaGrand, who was scheduled to go on trial this week before the insanity plea was entered, is charged with rape, engaging in sexual conduct with a minor and sexual importuning. The charges carry a maximum possible sentence of life in prison.

The alleged crimes occurred between 2004 and 2012, with LaGrand engaging in sexual conduct with four different children during that period. LaGrand reportedly knew the minors and posed as a woman during this period to gain access to the alleged victims.

When initially arrested, LaGrand continued to use the female name of Erin on his jail paperwork.
