DAMASCUS - The Damascus Garden Club, a member of the Garden Club of Ohio Inc., met on Oct. 11 at the home of hostess Marilyn Brumbaugh. Co-hostesses were Marty Hollinger and Marge Miller who provided an oriental-themed lunch complete with chopsticks. Fifteen members responded to the roll call question, "What flower has given you the most frustration in the garden?"
Reports from the following committees were presented: Ginny Huffman, Ways and Means chair, called for final submission of pictures for the calendar project.
The calendar, featuring pictures of the gardens of club members, should be ready for purchase during Light Up Damascus activities in December. Lee Kuentz requested that members sign up for categories they wished to enter in the club's floral design exhibition to be held at the Damascus Friends Church on Dec. 8.
June Wallace, a member of the nomination committee, read the slate of nominees for the 2013 club officers. They are Marilyn Wingett, president; Rhonda Mitchell, first vice president; the position for second vice president remains open; Hilda Spack, treasurer; and Marcia Spack, secretary. Val Knoedler motioned to accept the slate as read and Sandy Kilmer seconded the motion which was passed unanimously by the members.
Under New Business, Wingett gave a report on the September Canton District meeting and programs held at the Meyers Lake Ballroom.
For the November meeting, members are requested to bring white elephant items to share for use in the floral exhibit designs. A program was presented by Irene Morckel titled, "Unsolved Mysteries: The Hydrangea."
