Effort will aid those living with uncertainty
EAST LIVERPOOL -River Valley Health Partners the First National Community Bank and YMCA Calcutta are focusing efforts to help people who are living with uncertainty.
These organizations are providing for area families by sponsoring collection points for the Salvation Army's Day of Thanks.
From now until Nov. 16, you can drop off non-perishable food and personal care items at collection points. Locations for drop offs are in the Dasco Home Medical office at East Liverpool City Hospital, the Therapy Center and the YMCA in Calcutta. First National Community Bank created drop off points in its East Liverpool area offices at its St. Clair Avenue, state Route 170 and Bradshaw Avenue offices.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 17, volunteers from East Liverpool City Hospital and First National Community Bank will collect donations on the corner of Fifth and Monroe.
One-act plays planned at Crestview HS
COLUMBIANA - Crestview High School will perform four one-act plays beginning at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 in the Performing Arts Center.
Tickets will be on sale at the door at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $6 for adults, $4 for students, and free for 4 and under. One dollar from each ticket sold will be donated to the Pelino family benefit that evening. Arts and crafts will be set up in the lobby for a silent auction.
Calvary United Methodist hosting dinner
NORTH LIMA - The Calvary United Methodist Church at 12062 South Ave. Extension will host a free Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 22. Public breakfast buffet scheduled Nov. 24
SALEM-A public breakfast buffet will be served from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Nov. 24 at the Salem Masonic Building, 788 E. State St.
Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under age 10 and free for children under 2. The menu offers pancakes, waffles, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, homemade sausage gravy, biscuits, homefries, toast, fruit cocktail, orange juice, coffee and tea. The building is equipped with a handicapped accessible elevator. Proceeds will be directed to the Salem Masonic Building Fund.
Feezle Auction and Dinner of Hope set
EAST PALESTINE - The Niki Feezle CF Explosion of Hope Foundation will host The Niki Feezle Auction and Dinner of Hope on Dec. 1 at Dull's Auction Service in East Palestine.
Proceeds from this auction will be used to help area families who have children with cystic fibrosis. Doors will open at 5 p.m. Vanessa Campagna will sing Christmas carols and country music from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. followed by a silent auction, Chinese auction and a live auction. Items have been donated by local businesses. Items include a Goodyear Blimp ride, NASCAR signed items, signed sports memorabilia and signed music memorabilia. Tickets are limited.

Slovak Club holding Christmas craft show
SALEM - The annual Christmas craft show at the Slovak Club at 313 S. Ellsworth Ave. will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 15.

Registration open at Eastern Gateway CC
STEUBENVILLE - Registration for the spring semester is now open at Eastern Gateway Community College. The semester begins Jan. 14.
Interested residents are reminded of the college's special offer of the Half-Off Tuition Grant for new students taking a minimum of six credit hours at the Valley Center in downtown Youngstown.
New students must apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and use awarded financial aid before the Half-Off Grant will be applied.
The grant will cover half of the tuition charges for new students during the spring 2013 semester only.
Admission to the college remains open and new students should immediately contact the admissions office at 330-744-8967. New students will meet with an admissions recruiter to discuss transfer opportunities and/or career preparation programs in business, engineering and information technologies, health and public services.
They will take free placement testing to make sure they are placed in the correct level of classes.

Hours increased for SCH's 'Gus the Bus'
SALEM - The hours for "Gus the Bus," Salem Community Hospital's temporary shuttle service, have been increased for the safety and convenience of patients and visitors to the hospital.
The shuttle provides round trip service between the hospital's north parking lot and main lobby six days a week.
Gus the Bus Schedule
6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday
8 a.m. to noon Saturdays
No service Sundays and holidays.
To ride the bus from the north parking lot, visitors and patients should wait by their cars for pick-up by the shuttle. Return service to the parking lot is available from the hospital's main lobby.
These new hours will be evaluated over time and may be adjusted based on guests' needs. For additional information call the hospital's public relations department at 330-332-7227.

COLUMBIANA - The First Presbyterian Church at 28 E. Park Ave. will hold its sixth annual "Indoor Flea Market" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday during "Christmas in Columbiana" weekend. Over 30 vendor tables will be filled with yard sale, garage sale, antique, collectible and craft items. An eat-in or carry-out lunch counter will feature chili and a variety of homemade soups. Admission and parking are free. Proceeds benefit the church's general fund.
Elks sponsoring Americanism essay contest
SALEM - The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is sponsoring a 2012-13 Americanism essay contest. This year's topic is "What Does the National Anthem Mean to Me?" Division I is fifth and sixth grades and Division II is seventh and eighth grades. The paperwork for this essay is available at the Salem Public Library and the local Lodge, Salem #305. The deadline for submitting at the local level is Jan. 10, 2013 and may be mailed to Salem Elks #305, Att: Kim Chapman, 824 E. State St., Salem, Ohio 44460. The top three essays in each division will go onto the district level. Then those top three essays in each division advance to the state level. The essay is to be no more than 250 words, typed or legibly printed in ink. The cover sheet must be attached to the essay for submission.
