CALCUTTA - The death of a Birch Road man from a gunshot wound in his home early Saturday is under investigation by the St. Clair Township Police Department.

Police Chief Donald Hyatt confirmed Jeffrey Price died from a gunshot. Police were called to the home regarding a shooting victim at 8:45 a.m. Saturday.

Hyatt said other members of the family were in the home at the time of the shooting. Investigators are in the early stages of speaking to each of those family members and putting together the details of how Price died. A handgun was among evidence recovered from the home.

"We believe it is the weapon the shot came from," Hyatt said, cautioning that the investigation is still in the early stages.

An autopsy has been ordered by Hyatt. The body has been sent to Summit County Coroner's Office. The details from the autopsy will provide further forensic evidence, he said.

Additionally, Hyatt called for crime scene technicians from the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation to assist at the scene.
