Libertarian candidate to speak

STREETSBORO - Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson is scheduled to appear at a campaign rally at 7:30 p.m. today at Stringz & Wingz, 1543 state Route 303. Prior to the rally, Johnson will host a meet and greet for local officials and donors from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Johnson, 59, was the Republican governor of New Mexico from 1995-2003. He started a one-man handyman venture while in high school that grew into the largest construction company in New Mexico. For more information about Johnson go to garyjohnson2012.com.

Lego Club to meet in Salem

SALEM - The Salem Public Library's Lego Club meeting begins at 10 a.m. Saturday. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to bring their Legos to the library to create block vehicles. Admission is free. For more information call the library at 330-332-0042.

Railroad Assoc. open house

YOUNGSTOWN - The Youngstown Model Railroad Association's fall open house is open from noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 3, 4, 10, 11 and Dec. 1, 2, 8 and 9. Poetry reading in East Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOL - Local poet Karen Kotrba will read from her recently published book of poems, "She Who is Like a Mare: Poems of Mary Breckinridge and the Frontier Nursing Service" at 1 p.m. Nov. 5 at Java Jo's, 514 E. Lisbon BOE meets Tuesday

LISBON - The Lisbon Exempted Village Board of Education's regular meeting begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the board room at the BOE office.

Election Day luncheon planned

COLUMBIANA - The Columbiana First United Methodist Church at 210 S. Main St. will hold an Election Day luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 6. Cost is $5 for a hot ham and cheese sandwich, baked beans, chips, brownie and a beverage.

Cover Crop Workshop set

HOMEWORTH -A Cover Crop Workshop is planned for Nov. 7 at Campbell Bros. Inc., 3821 Union Ave. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. with the field visit starting at 5 p.m.

Veterans breakfast at Crestview

COLUMBIANA - Crestview High School and middle school will be honoring local veterans with a continental-style breakfast and assembly on Nov. 8. Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. in the high school cafeteria followed by an assembly in the Performing Arts Center to honor those who have served in the armed services. Veterans invited to Southern Local

SALINEVILLE - Southern Local Schools is hosting its annual Veterans Day breakfast and assembly on Nov. 9. All veterans are invited to attend the 8 a.m. breakfast, free of charge. The program begins at 9 a.m. and is open to the public.

Four Shillings Short Concert set

SALEM - The Four Shillings Short Concert, presented by Dulci-More, begins at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 in the meeting room of the Dale Shaffer Research Library, 239 S. HEAP walk-ins due by Nov.9

LISBON - Community Action Agency will see walk-ins only until Nov. 9 for Emergency HEAP. Each day at 6 a.m., 30 numbers will be put out for applicants. If you get a number, you are guaranteed to be seen by an intake worker. The office is located at 7860 Lincole Place (rear) in Lisbon. Ohio's 2012-2013 Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program provides assistance to low-income households that have had utilities disconnected, face a utility shut-off, or a one time delivery of bulk utilities if the customer's tank is at less than 25 percent of its capacity.

Beginning Monday, Nov. 13, there will be a more limited number of walk-ins and the only clients guaranteed assistance will have an appointment or a walk-in number. To make an appointment call 330-424-1386. This automated system books appointments up to 14 days in advance and will only hold a disconnection if the client leaves the account number and social security number of the account holder. Ozer Ministries open house

EAST PALESTINE-Ozer Ministries will host its annual holiday open house, "A Caroling Christmas," from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 9 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 10 at 407 N. Market St. Themed gift baskets and a Coca Cola-themed Christmas tree will be featured in a Chinese auction. Proceeds will benefit the Tobin Center Chaplaincy Ministry. All are welcome. Ozer will also have a table at the craft show on Nov. 10 in the East Palestine Elementary School. Items for sale will include small holiday gift bags and other holiday fare. Free grandparenting class offered

SALEM - New or soon-to-be grandparents are invited to attend a free grandparenting class sponsored by Salem Community Hospital's Family Education Program from1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 10 at the hospital. The grandparenting class helps bridge the communication gap often experienced among new parents and grandparents with discussions on breastfeeding, nutrition, infant massage, medications and safety. Bubble Guy back at Salem Library

SALEM - The Salem Public Library will welcome The Bubble Guy back to Salem at 11 a.m. Nov. 10. Mr. Zap will show us all the cool things you can do with bubbles, including putting people inside of them. This free program is open to families with children under the age of 12. EP Holiday Craft Show planned

EAST PALESTINE -The annual Holiday Craft Show sponsored by the East Palestine Chamber of Commerce will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 10 at the East Palestine Elementary School, 195 W. Grant St. Over 100 spaces and vendors will be located in the cafeteria, gym and hallways. A bake sale will also be offered. There is no cost for admission and no charge for parking. Homemade food will be available all day. A Chinese auction will be held throughout the day with donations from the vendors. Winners do not need to be present to claim their prize. Book signing set in Leetonia

LEETONIA - Judy Lennington of Cortland, a graduate of Beaver Local High School, has written three books in the past year and four months. The author will be present at two signing events.

The first signing is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Johnston Center Fire Hall in Johnston Center, east of Cortland.

The second event is a reading and signing at 6 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Leetonia Community Public Library in Leetonia. Her books are titled, "Saving Diana," "Daniel's Day" and "Snow."
