SALEM - Members of the Salem Key Club will be collecting money for the UNICEF Foundation's Eliminate Project during trick or treat hours in Salem from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today.

Chamber hosting 'Light Up the Night'
SALEM - The Beautification Committee of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce is announcing a Christmas lighting contest as a new event for the 2012 holiday season. "Light Up the Night" is a contest for residents of Salem in the 44460 zip code.
Judges from the committee will be looking for homes with the best lighting displays (non-commercial) and will award one home and one business.
The chamber's "Light Up Night" ceremony begins at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 on the Village Green. The community Christmas tree and the downtown Christmas lights will be lighted during this special ceremony, and the winners of the lighting contest will be announced.
Other activities will include music from the Salem High School Encore group. Realife Church will providing refreshments. The Quakertown Trolley will provide a Christmas light tour that will include the lighting contest winners.
Residents are asked to have their lighting displays completed by the week of Nov. 26. For more information call the chamber at 330-337-3473.

Society hosting scrapbooking workshop
NEWELL, W. Va. - The Tri-State Genealogical and Historical Society is hosting a genealogy/scrapbooking workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the society's research library at 717 Washington St., Newell.
Staff and volunteers will be on hand to help you learn to use genealogy researching and scrapbooking to make gifts. Those attending are to bring pictures or documents to use for scrapping. Scrapbooking supplies will be provided.

COLUMBIANA - The Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to bring your organization's message to its annual Christmas parade, and let the people of Columbiana know what you are all about.

The parade is held in conjunction with Columbiana's annual "Christmas in Columbiana." The parade steps out at 10 a.m. Nov. 17 from Joshua Dixon School and proceeds down Main Street to Union Street. This year's theme is "The Joy of Christmas is Shining."
After the parade, the chamber will be taking pictures with Santa at the Main Street Theater. Other activities throughout the day include a lunch/bake/craft sale at the First Presbyterian Church; the annual St. Jude craft sale; and free Christmas movies at the Columbiana Public Library beginning at 1:30 p.m., etc.
The stores will welcome guests with special sales and refreshments and local entertainers will wander through the shops, adding to the Christmas spirit. Columbiana's annual free Thanksgiving
dinner will be held Nov. 21
COLUMBIANA - Columbiana's annual, free Thanksgiving dinner begins at 1 p.m. Nov. 21 at the First Christian Church. Those attending must call the Way Station at 330-482-5072 between Nov. 1-12 to sign-up.
Dinner is prepared by Das Dutch Haus, Dutch Village Inn, Rita's, Columbiana McDonald's, and generous individuals who will be baking turkeys, pies, cakes, bread and donating other items for the feast. The dinner will be served by "local" celebrities such as county commissioners, judges, local officials, and the state representative.
Those with handicap accessible needs should park in the parking lot on the east end of the building and use the door closest to that lot. People dropping off donations should use the door on North Middle Street.
Carryouts are available to those who sign-up in advance. Delivery is available in Columbiana, Leetonia, Washingtonville, Leetonia, North Lima, New Waterford, Rogers, Negley and East Palestine when arrangements are made in advance.
Financial help is needed, along with sugar-free desserts, regular desserts, bread and rolls. There is also a need for volunteers to greet and organize the following: leftovers, desserts, carryout, deliveries, and transport individuals who do not have transportation.
