NEW SPRINGFIELD - Raymond E. Bentfeld, 91, formerly of Woodworth Road, died at 4:19 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center in Columbiana where he had been a resident for the past two and a half years.
Born March 29, 1921, in Enon Valley, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Scherer) Bentfeld.
Mr. Bentfeld, an Army veteran of World War II, had been employed as a tow truck operator and master mechanic at the former Truscon Steel plant of Youngstown, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the New Springfield United Methodist Church and the New Springfield Volunteer Fire Department.
His wife, Mary Jane (Wilson) Bentfeld, whom he married Jan. 1, 1944, preceded him in death on March 10, 2012.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth (Barbara) Bentfeld of Austintown; a daughter, Betty Lou (John) Wolsonovich of Brockton, Mass.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Peter Bentfeld.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home in East Palestine (www.oliver-linsley.com) with Pastor Jonathan George officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens in New Waterford.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
