LISBON - Chesapeake Exploration was awarded a $2.4 million joint judgment in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court this week against defendants William E. Blair Jr., Ball Resources, Inc., 5 Star LLC, Richard W. Petticrew Oil and Gas Trust and Bass Energy.

According to court documents, Chesapeake Exploration purchased gas leases from all the parties involved including those known as the Blair Group, listed above. According to court documents, the leases were not properly done and then sold to the Chesapeake Energy. Because of problems with the leases, Chesapeake was granted the $2.4 million from the Blair Group.

However, the motion for partial summary judgment against Chowder Gas Storage Facility LLC, another company involved in the sale of leases to Chesapeake, has been denied at this time.

The judgment entry was awarded by Judge Scott Washam on Tuesday.
