EL man gets probation for drug possession

LISBON - George W. Petties III, 28, Wilbert Avenue, East Liverpool, was sentenced in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to an indefinite term at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center, placed on probation for five years and had his license suspended for six months for possession of drugs. Petties on Nov. 8, 2011, in East Liverpool had cocaine in his possession, a set of digital scales and $1,223 believed to be part of drug activity.

James A. Coleman, 52, South Lincoln Avenue, Salem, stipulated on Monday to violating his probation. He was sentenced to eight months in prison with credit for 88 days already served. Coleman had been on probation for a 2009 domestic violence conviction for harming a then 14-year-old family member.

Clinton W. Wright, 25, Azalea Avenue, East Liverpool, was sentenced Friday to three years probation for receiving stolen property. Court documents state Wright had a motorcycle belonging to World of Cycles, Moon Township, Pa., in his possession between Aug. 26 and Sept. 2, 2011.

Shawn Rush pleaded guilty Tuesday to illegal conveyance of drugs onto the grounds of a detention facility and three counts of theft. He faces up to six years in prison and a $17,500 fine. Sentencing is set for Dec. 14. At the time of sentencing the prosecution has indicated its intent to dismiss a misuse of credit cards charge. Court documents state Rush had 10 tablets of Alprazolam wrapped in foil and concealed in his underwear when he was booked into the Columbiana County Jail on March 9, 2011.

Additionally, Rush was accused on Feb. 24, 2011 of taking Abbey Gorby's purse from her car parked in front of Gorby's Grocery containing three credit cards.

Bryan K. Moffett, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to burglary. Sentencing is set for Dec. 14, when he faces up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine. According to court documents Moffett and a co-defendant, Nick Rhodes, on Nov. 24 kicked in the back door to go into the home of Terry and Beau Manley, 96 Wood Street, East Palestine, with the intention of assaulting the occupants.
