SALEM - Dean G. Nordquest, 85, of Salem passed away at his home on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012.
He was born in Warren, Ohio on Sept. 12, 1927, the son of the late Carl and Ruth (Huston) Nordquest.
Dean served as a corporal in the US Marine Corps and worked at Ohio Bell as a Central Office Technician until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Salem where he served as an usher and on the Church Council. Dean was a Boy Scoutmaster and enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, Ham radio, gardening, reading and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Arlene (Lindberg) whom he married on May 23, 1953; two sons, Roger (Mary) of Sebastian, Fla., and Richard (Diana) of Salem; four grandsons, Keith (Jennifer) of Little Rock, Ark., Matthew (Michele) of San Diego, Calif., Brian (Jessica) of Alliance and Michael of Jacksonville, Fla.; three great grandchildren, Jonathan, Victoria and Juliet; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Lois and a brother Robert.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Alan Smearsoll officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the church at 251 South Broadway Ave., Salem, OH 44460, or Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, OH 44512.
