Sheriff: County man shot by brother-in-law

By JO ANN BOBBY-GILBERT , Salem News

WELLSVILLE A local man was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital Thursday night after allegedly being shot in the abdomen by his brother-in-law.

Sheriff Ray Stone reported Friday afternoon that Gideon Gordon, 43592 18th Street Heights, suffered non-life-threatening injuries when shot by Gerald Greathouse, 60, same address. Reports did not indicate Gordon's age, nor did the sheriff's department have that information last night.

The department responded at 9:49 p.m. with Wellsville police officers to the home that the two men reportedly share with Gordon's wife, Vicki, who is Greathouse's sister.

Stone said they were met at the door by Greathouse, who reportedly said he had shot Mr. Gordon and "should have killed the S.O.B."

According to a statement from Mrs. Gordon, her husband had been beating on her for an hour and her brother had told him to stop, but he wouldn't, which is when Greathouse shot him in the abdomen.

The type of gun was not reported Friday by the sheriff, who indicated the matter remains under investigation.

Gordon was transported by ambulance to East Liverpool City Hospital then was flown by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital.

Greathouse was charged with felonious assault and possession of drugs (marijuana), although reports did not indicate what prompted the drug charge.

He was arraigned in county Municipal Court Friday, where a preliminary hearing was scheduled Oct. 11 and cash/surety bond set at $250,000.
