Senior citizens to meet

COLUMBIANA - Columbiana Senior Citizens will meet at 10 a.m. Oct. 9 and 23 at the Upper Room. A pizza lunch will be served at the Oct. 9 meeting. Those attending are to bring a sack lunch to the second meeting.

SCC holiday bazaar planned

SALEM - The Salem Community Center Holiday Bazaar Extraordinaire will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 17. Tables space is available for $30 per table or $35 for a table with electric. Tables must be reserved by Nov. 9. This event will be held in the auxiliary gym. For more information call 330-332-5885 or inquire at the SCC front desk.

La Leche League to meet

LISBON - The Salem-Lisbon La Leche League, a breastfeeding support group, will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church, 111 E. Chestnut St. The discussion topic will be "Baby Arrives: The Family and the Breastfed Baby." All pregnant or nursing mothers and their babies are welcome. NVFD conducting fund raiser

NEWELL, W. Va. - In observance of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Newell Volunteer Fire Department is selling Newell VFD breast cancer shirts and hoodies. The clothing is available in navy blue with pink lettering and designs. Prices range from $10 to $30 for youth and adult items. Orders must be paid for in advance. Bethany Ladies hold meeting

SALEM - Donna Bennett of Berea spoke when Bethany Ladies Missionary Fellowship met on Sept. 25 at the Calvary Baptist Church. Bennett represented Baptist Church Planters. Pastor Roger Dulaney provided special music, "The Mission." Approximately 39 women attended. The men of the church served the lunch provided by the women of the church.

Wayne Twp. schools reunion

GAVERS - The 31st annual Wayne Twp. Columbiana County No. 16 School reunion was held Sept. 30th at the Camp McKinley dining hall with approximately 40 in attendance. All the schools in Wayne Township were represented. New officers for 2013 are President Dale Cusick Sr., Vice President John McGeehen, and Secretary/Treasurer Lucille Drummond. Table committee members are Marjorie Watson, Drummond and Mary Davis. Music was provided by Mandolin player McGeehen, accompanied on the guitar by Cusick. A white elephant auction was held with Donald Burton and Ken Baer as auctioneers. Next year's reunion is scheduled for Sept. 29 at Camp McKinley.

R-Weigh rewards weight loss

SALEM - The R-Weigh weight support groups that pay members to lose weight, met Monday at 1 and 5 p.m. at Faith Chapel. A lost of 29 pounds was recorded for the week. Good losers for the week were Jenni Alwood, Sandy Shipton, Rita Cecil, Donna Greenamyer and Mary Hefner and all received a monetary award. Patty Mills, Ruth Miller and Jo Carol Gray were the goalies for the week. Kay Swanson and Sandy McGarr from the afternoon group and Peggy Kurtz from the evening group earned the can-do monetary award. Jennifer Oettinger earned her one-half way to goal award. The afternoon groups seniors had the most losses in the school contest and received a Fiber One bar as a reward. The evening groups freshmen and seniors had the most losses and received the apple reward. The school contest continues for one more week.

Winona Ruritans meet

WINONA - The Winona Ruritan Club met Sept. 25 at Willow Grove Grange with 24 in attendance. "Happy Birthday" was sung to members born in September: Jim Coy, Gordon Dawes and Bob Lance. Members were invited to the 70th wedding anniversary party for member Donald Sanor and his wife Ruth on Nov. 11 at the Friends Church in Damascus.

Homer Huprich moved the club send a check to the Saxon Club to reserve the pavilion for June 25, 2013. John Stamp informed members that a $50 donation would be made to the United Local Community Scholarship Fund in memory of Janet Zimmerman, deceased wife of member Jim Zimmerman. Donovan Winn reported that he and Coy were seeking officer and director candidates for next year. The pancake and sausage breakfast will be held from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the grange. Tickets are available from members or at the door. The Zone 4 meeting begins at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Christian Church in Kensington. The Ohio District fall convention is Nov. 10.
