Beaver Local board to meet

LISBON - The Beaver Local Board of Education will meet in special session at 6 p.m. today in Room 2 at the high school. The purpose of the meeting is to enter into executive session for the appointment of a public official and any other business matters that come before the board. The board will meet again at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 2 for the same purpose.

Salem 1945 lunch planned

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1945 will meet for lunch at noon Wednesday at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

DAHS 1963 breakfast set

LISBON - The David Anderson High School Class of 1963 will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Taste of Country.

Sixteen School reunion

LISBON - The 31st annual Sixteen School reunion begins at 1 p.m. Sept. 30 in the dining hall at Camp McKinley, located off Logtown Road, just west of Lisbon. Attendees should bring a coverdish, table service and one or more items for the white elephant auction. The beverage and rolls will be furnished. Anyone who attended any of the elementary schools in Wayne Township are welcome.

Compassionate Friends

SALEM - The Compassionate Friends support group plans to meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at the First Friends Church on Jennings Avenue.

Walk Warm Program resumes

COLUMBIANA - The Walk Warm Program for the Columbiana Exempted Village School District community resumes on Monday, Oct. 1. The program invites adults to walk in the school hallways as a healthy way in which to receive good exercise away from inclement weather conditions.

Columbiana High School is open for this program Monday through Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. Due to safety concerns, only the gym wing doors (west side of the building facing the large parking lot) will be open. Exit can be made at any time through any door but entrance can only be made through the west side gym wing doors. A measured course is posted for walkers who choose to keep an accurate log of distance.

Joshua Dixon Elementary School will be open for this program Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The main front doors only will be open for entry and exit.

Both schools will be closed for this program on school holidays and when school is canceled.

United Quilt Guild to meet

SALEM - The United Quilt Guild will meet on Oct. 2 at the First Presbyterian Church on East Second Street. The UnFinished Objects and Market Place workday is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The business session starts at 6:30 p.m. The program concerns "Vendors' Night."

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1951 will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Oct. 3 at the Skyline Diner.

St. Paul LCBA?to meet

SALEM - The Loyal Christian Benefit Association meeting begins at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 in St. Paul School gym featuring the "Pound Party." Members are asked to bring one or more items that weigh about a pound each to be auctioned. Personal care items and paper products will also be collected. All proceeds from the auction and collection will be donated to Christina Center.

Butler tire collection

BUTLER TOWNSHIP - Butler Township will hold a tire collection for township residents from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 5 and 8 to 11 a.m. Oct. 6 at the township garage on Slater Road. Car and light truck tires only will be accepted. No tires on rims will be accepted.

Dance to raise funds for Reilly

SALEM - The Salem Preservation Society is hosting "Dance For the Reilly Stadium" from 9 p.m. to midnight Oct. 5 at the Elks Club, 824 E. State St. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. There will be a cash bar and DJ Gene Johnson will spin all your favorite tunes. Tickets are $10 at the door. Advance tickets are $8 and available at BB Rooners and Hibbett Sports. All area residents and visitors, age 21 and over, are welcome. Proceeds will be directed to the Reilly Project. Salineville Hall breakfast

SALINEVILLE - The Salineville-Southern Local Athletic Hall of Fame breakfast begins at 10 a.m. Oct. 6 in the high school cafeteria. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 10 and under. Reservations may be made by calling the high school office at 330-679-2305 Ext. 200.

Apple dumpling sale set

SALEM - Butler Grange's annual apple dumpling sale will be held Oct, 8, 9, 11 and 12. To order call Ruth Ann Altenhof at 330-222-1889. The grange is located one mile west of state Route 9, at the corner of Winona Road and Butler Grange Road.

Alliance Senior Citizens Center

ALLIANCE - The public is invited to activities next month at the Alliance Area Senior Citizens Center, 602 W. Vine St.

The Fall Harvest Festival on Oct. 7 features raffles, second chance items and books. Doors open at 11 a.m. Homemade foods will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and include soup, haluski, Italian sausage sandwiches, hot turkey sandwiches, apple dumplings, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin ice cream. Carryouts are available.

A Halloween dinner/dance on Oct. 19 kicks off with food served at 6 p.m. followed by the dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Music will be provided by The Rex Taneri Orchestra. Admission is $13 per person, or $7 for the dance only. Dinner tickets must be purchased or reserved in advance by calling 330-821-3348.

National Book Month marked

COLUMBIANA - The National Book Foundation has been honoring great American books for over 60 years and claims October as National Book Month. This annual event encourages readers of all ages to enjoy books. Books help you embark on a journey of a lifetime, travel to exotic places, mythical lands and experience adventures beyond imagination. All you need is an open mind, an open book and a library card from Columbiana Public Library. During October stop by the library and check out a book or a book in audio form and register for a T-shirt giveaway every time you read a library book.

Internet Safety presentation

SALEM - The Salem Police Department, Columbiana County Prosecutor's Office and Family Practice Center will be hosting an Internet Safety presentation from 2- 3 p.m. Sept. 27 in Salem's Southeast School gymnasium. The presentation by officer Brad Davis, juvenile prosecutor Ryan Weingart and Dr. Michael Sevilla will cover the positive and negative aspects of social media including Facebook, FourSquare, Linkedin, Twitter, YouTube and others.

Movie at Leetonia Library

LEETONIA- The Leetonia Community Public Library will host a matinee movie at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. "The Magic of Belle Isle" will be the feature, starring Morgan Freeman as an author who goes to a special island hoping to rekindle his writing talent and finds a family that quickly bonds with him. Light refreshments will be served.

New Waterford Council

NEW WATERFORD - Village council will meet in special session at 6:45 p.m. today in the community building before the finance committee meeting.
