Thursday is deadline for Beaver Local Board of Ed vacancy

LISBON - Thursday is the deadline for applications for the vacant board seat on the Beaver Local Board of Education.

Parkside Health Care hosting car and motorcycle cruise

COLUMBIANA - Parkside Health Care Center at 930 E. Park Ave. is hosting a classic car and motorcycle cruise at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Over 50 cars are expected to on display.

The event is free and open to the public. In addition to the cars and motorcycles, a DJ will play classic musical hits and Boy Scout Pack #16 will sell refreshments.

Public invited to dance at Saturday Salem Eagles Club

SALEM - The public is invited to a dance from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Salem Eagles Club on North Ellsworth Avenue. Music will be provided by Damaged Goods.

Tables available for 'Indoor Yard Sale and Flea Market'

SALEM - Tables are still available for rent for the annual "Indoor Yard Sale and Flea Market" from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Memorial Building.

DAHS Class of 1962 will meet Saturday for breakfast

LISBON - The David Anderson High School Class of 1962 plans to meet for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Quakertown Trolley will help with Historical Society tour

SALEM - The Salem Historical Society, using the Quakertown Trolley, is offering tours at noon and 2 p.m., during the Family Fun Day on Saturday.

Walk-ups are welcome, but reservations are encouraged by calling 330-337-3035. Cost is $10. The tour originates at the Shaffer Library at 239 S. Lundy Ave.

For those not familiar with this tour, now in its fifth year, Jeanne Martinelli, dressed as a Salem Quaker, will take passengers back in time to the year 1856.

Since the homes are private and entrance not possible, flashed on a screen inside the trolley will be over 100 slides to show pictures of the insides of the homes, the Underground Railroad hiding places, and several abolitionists who lived in or visited them.

Bob Evans restaurants holding Community Fun Day

GREENFORD - The Bob Evans restaurants located on Boardman-Canfield Road in Canfield and East State Street in Salem will each hold a Community Fun Day on Sunday in order to raise funds to help the Big Reach Center of Hope continue its fight against hunger in the valley. The public is asked to visit to print a coupon and present it with your receipt from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 15 percent of your total bill will be donated directly back to the Center of Hope. It will be a fun, food-filled day that will help feed thousands of individuals in the valley.

The Big Reach Center of Hope, a Greenford Christian Church ministry, provides resources and opportunities to help low income and under served individuals in Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull, Stark and surrounding counties. Since its inception in 2004, Big Reach has reached out to thousands of families by supplying free groceries, household items, clothing, and toys. In 2011 the Big Reach Center of Hope helped over 30,000 children and adults.

EAST PALESTINE - The East Palestine Village Council meeting begins at 7 p.m. Monday at the Park Community Center.

Port Authority will move to executive session on Monday

EAST LIVERPOOL - The Columbiana County Port Authority's monthly board meeting moves to executive session at 2 p.m. Monday to discuss pending litigation and personnel matters at the port authority offices at 1250 St. George St. The regular meeting follows at 5 p.m.

Office on Aging rep will address Church Women United

SALEM - Joe Rossi from the Office on Aging will speak when Church Women United meets at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Education Building, 251 S. Broadway Ave. Fellowship begins at 1 p.m. Women from St. Paul Catholic Church will serve as hostesses.
