SALEM - Virgil Eugene Yaeger, 92, of Green Township, Salem, died at 10:25 p.m. Saturday at Salem Community Hospital.
He was a lifelong Green Township resident and farmer. He sold produce and raised strawberries from his farm.
He was born on Dec. 8, 1919 in Greenford, Ohio, the son of the late Joseph A. and Effie (Huffman) Yaeger.
He and his wife attended the Salem First United Methodist Church and he was an active part of the Co-op at the Salem Fruit Growers and the Conservation group.
He is survived by his second wife, the former Ethel A. Baird, whom he married on Aug. 22, 1984; a daughter, Pamela (Rob) Clark of Lisbon; stepchildren, Jerry (Mary) Besze of Texas and Cathy (Jim) Flinn of St. Mary's, Ohio; 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and one great great grand child.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Alta M. (McNabb) Yaeger whom he married on April 8, 1941 and who died on March 11, 1983; two sons, Donald Yaeger in 2000 and Richard Dean Yaeger in 1960; and stepchildren, Carole Applegate in 1985 and Louis Besze in 1988.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Salem First United Methodist Church with the Rev. P. Doug George officiating. The burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be observed on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen Funeral Home, Salem and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in the church parlor.
