Remembering 9/11 with service

September 12, 2012
Salem News

Habitat for Humanity site supervisor Scott Craven directs volunteers during the 9/11 Build at 317 E. Fourth St., Salem, where more than 40 volunteers, including military veterans and community groups, marked the National Day of Remembrance and Service by helping to raise the walls of the home Tuesday. The day began with an opening ceremony and moments of silence at the times when the planes hit the World Trade Center towers and Pentagon and when the towers collapsed and the plane crashed in Shanksville, Pa. During lunch, provided by East of Chicago Pizza, Alfredo's and Pizza Joe's, veterans and first responders were recognized and signed a flower box filled with poppies which will presented to the family when the home is dedicated. The Rotary Club of Salem provided American flags posted around the job site. (Salem News photo by Mary Ann Greier)
