Salem cruises

SALEM - The Salem Lady Quakers took care of Canton South in three sets 25-13, 25-17, 25-19. Camrin Costal had nine kills. Lindsey Foster added eight kills, two tips and three blocks. Katherine Stiff added 10 assists.

The Salem J.V. squad (6-1) also won 25-15, 25-11. Olivia Stiff and Courtney Waters had six kills each.

Salem (4-3, 3-2 NBC) plays at Marlington Thursday.

Western Reserve tops Leetonia

BERLIN CENTER - The Western Reserve Lady Blue Devils dropped Leetonia 25-16, 25-14, 25-16 Tuesday.

For Reserve (5-1, 3-1 ITCL Tier 2) Alexis Miller had 24 points, six aces, three kills and two blocks. Kalina Wisniewski added seven kills and two blocks. Rachel Maslach had four points, nine kills, 16 assists and four digs.

For Leetonia (0-5), Kinzie Smith had two points, two aces and 16 assists. Erica Gruzecki had four digs.

West Branch wins in three

BELOIT - West Branch beat NBC rival Marlington in straight sets Tuesday 25-10, 32-30, 25-18.

Leading the Lady Warriors was Kaylee Manning with 24 points and 10 assists. Taryn Hahn and Sydney Townes had six kills, and Kyla Sharp, Bailey McElwain and Pavin Heath had nine digs each.

West Branch won the J.V. contest 25-19, 25-18. Sarah Weber had 15 points and seven assists. Paige Walsh had six kills; Lexington Pittman added five.

West Branch improves to 3-6 and 1-4 in the NBC.

Columbiana tops Lowellville

LOWELLVILLE - Columbiana beat Lowellville 25-13, 25-13, 25-12. Leading the Lady Clipper was Cassandra Sampson with 11 kills. Cassidy Stoddard added 12 points, five aces and 21 assists, and Lindsey Roncone had 10 points and 10 digs.

Columbiana also won the J.V. match 25-14, 25-15. Leading the jayvee team was Tori Vivo with nine points and seven digs.

With the win Columbiana improves to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in Tier 2 of the ITCL.

JM tops United

NORTH JACKSON - Jackson-Milton defeated United in four sets 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21 Tuesday.

Gabby Tharp had 28 points and two aces for the Lady Bluejays (5-0, 4-0 ITCL Tier 1).

For United, Mollie Phillis had 13 points and four aces. Tara Gray had five kills and four digs, and Sam Spitler added 11 digs and four kills.

United won the J.V. contest 25-19, 25-6.

Range tops Rebels

COLUMBIANA - South Range beat Crestview in five 19-25, 25-18, 25-17, 21-25, 15-12. Stevie Taylor had 12 kills, 24 digs and 10 points. Jordan Youngs added 27 digs and 13 points.

For Crestview, Savannah Elwonger had 15 kills and 16 digs. Morgan Newbauer added 36 assists, three kills and 39 digs.

Range also won the J.V. contest 21-25, 25-23, 25-18.

Holly Heck had three kills, a block and two aces for Range. Lauren Harrold had six kills and three aces for Crestview.

Crestview (4-2, 3-1 ITCL Tier 1) plays at Jackson-Milton Thursday.

Springfield cruises past EP

NEW MIDDLETOWN - Springfield defeated East Palestine in straight sets 25-18, 25-16, 25-20. For the Lady Tigers, Gabby Fellows had 11 kills and 12 points. Marissa Buchenic had 13 points and 36 assists.

For EP, Carley Sansenbaugher had seven kills, 21 blocks, five points and an ace. Rachel Montelone had five kills and 14 digs, and Logan Gatchel had 12 digs.

Springfield also won the J.V. contest 18-25, 25-7, 26-34. Emily Stacy had 15 points.

East Palestine (2-7, 0-5 ITCL Tier 1) plays Thursday at South Range.

Springfield (6-2, 4-1 ITCL Tier 1) hosts United.

Ridge bests Lisbon

LISBON - Mineral Ridge defeated Lisbon 25-20, 26-24, 25-14. McKenzie Garland had 16 digs, nine assists, four kills, two blocks and 17 points for Ridge.

For Lisbon, Sarah Boyd had 15 digs, five points and two aces.

The Lisbon J.V. team won 25-17, 25-21. Cheyanne Gostey had 10 points, foru aces and three digs, and Landri Moore had four digs, two kills and nine assists.

Boys Soccer

Salem 3, West Branch 2

SALEM - The Salem boys soccer team won on senior night 3-2 over rival West Branch.

Leading the Quakers was Brad Larson with two goals. Dan Rumsey added a goal. Blake Veglia added two assists.

Zach Economous had 10 saves in goal.

For West Branch, Skyler Gaver netted a goal. Alex Waggoner added the second. Zach Minich had eight saves in goal for the Warriors.

West Branch won the J.V. match 2-0. Kyle Zeigler and Jake Zets scored for the Warriors.

Salem (7-2) plays at Gilmour Academy Saturday.

Crestview 6, Heartland 0

COLUMBIANA - Crestview blanked Heartland Christian 6-0 Tuesday.

Greg Bable scored two goals and added an assist. Corey Kissinger had a goal and an assist. Josh Schlueter, Andrew Batchelor and Tony Marr also scored for the Rebels. Adam Roberts, Caleb McGrath, Noah Roberts, and E.J. Miller had assists.

Crestview held Heartland to no shots on goal.

Crestview (5-2-1) travels today to Ursuline for a 4:30 p.m. varsity start to be followed by the J.V. game.


Salem 196, Ursuline 209, Western Reserve 213

SALEM - Salem won a tri-match with Ursuline and Western Reserve Tuesday at the Salem Golf Club.

Hannah Rohrabaugh was medalist with a 43. Courtney Halter posted 49, Carli Hochadel 51 and Niki Slaven 53.

Ursuline was led by Carlye Hernandez and Syndey Beasley with 48s.

Western Reserve was led by Emily Henderson with a 50.

Salem plays Thursday at Carrollton.

Columbiana 165, McDonald 208

COLUMBIANA - Columbiana defeated McDonald 165-208 Tuesday in golf action.

Nathan Garafalo shot a 39 to earn medalist honors for the Clippers. Joe Lucci shot 41, Joe Munyon 42 and Bruce Wiggins 43.

Columbiana plays Lowellville today at Bedford Trails.

East Palestine 174, Jackson-Milton 178

NORTH JACKSON - East Palestine edged Jackson-Milton 174-178 in golf action Tuesday at Lakeside.

Drew Wilson and Phil Gerner shot 43s, and Andy Ellis and D.J. Bandy shot 44s.

Chance Proverb posted 40 for Jackson-Milton (11-2 ITCL Tier 1).

East Palestine improves to 14-1, 12-1 ITCL Tier 1.

Girls Soccer

Salem 2, Cardinal Mooney 1

SALEM - Salem's Marissa Swindell scored two goals to power the Lady Quakers past Cardinal Mooney 2-1 Monday night.

Julia Dundon had both assists, while Makenzie Schwartz recorded seven saves in goal.

The Salem J.V. team lost 2-0. Salem had a strong defensive stance led by Rylee Meals, Courtney Wagoner, Emma Wilson, Madison Schwartz and Raegan Meals.

Salem (4-4-0) plays tonight at West Branch.


Marlington 3, West Branch 2

MARLINGTON - West Branch fell to Marlington 3-2 in tennis action Tuesday.

West Branch (5-4, 1-2 NET) plays Thursday at Alliance.

Cross Country

Suburban League Meet @ Columbiana

COLUMBIANA - South Range's Tim Nichols won the Suburban League cross country meet Tuesday in 17:11. He beat second-place Nate Boyer of East Liverpool (18:08) by nearly a minute.

United's Cole Weikart (18:24) and James Kataro (18:43) finished third and fourth.

West Branch's J.P. Overly took eighth (19:10). South Range's Garrett Anderson finished ninth (19:13).

Canfield won the boys event with 43 points edging second-place United who tallied 52. West Branch was fourth out of nine teams with 120.

On the girls' side, Poland dominated taking the four of the top five spots. McKinsie Klim won in 20:13.

United's Allison Parks took third place in 20:26.

South Range's Mollie Pierson took sixth (21:23) and Matti Dunham took seventh (21:40). East Palestine's Hannah Hall took ninth (21:46), and Range's Madelyn Kimpel took tenth (22:15).

Poland won the event with 23 points. South Range was second with 61.
