LEETONIA- Village Council Wednesday night moved forward in the vacation of a section of Anglemyer Street.

Council approved the first reading of an ordinance vacating approximately 114.5 feet of the dead end to the east of Spruce Street. The roadway is currently not in use and the portion being vacated is completely surrounded by the Ron Stratton property. It is .1315 acres in size. Village Solicitor Walter Newton said the property has been surveyed.

In other business, Council President Dan Summers reported that a Columbia Street resident told him about speeding motorists along the street, including firefighters responding to calls in their own vehicles traveling up to 70 miles per hour. Newton said that he is unaware of any regulations regarding response to emergencies in private vehicles, although there may be an in-house policy.

Summers said he would check with Fire Chief Larry Hephner Jr. about the issue.

Also at the meeting, Councilwoman Shana Prince reminded residents that the Artisans Festival is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 23 at Wick Park. The event will be held in conjunction with a car show and the Leetonia Community Public Library's flower show and book sale.

The next regular council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at Village Hall.
