EAST LIVERPOOL - The new-look Potters began the new season on a positive note.

The East Liverpool volleyball team won the final two games of its Monday night to defeat St. Clairsville, 28-26, 11-25, 25-21, 25-13.

"It was a good game," East Liverpool (1-0) head coach Bob Shansky said. "St. Clairsville is a good team. Our inexperienced showed, but that is how you get experience is by keep on playing."

Individually for the Potters, Taylar Jordan recorded 11 points, 20 kills and eight assists, Jordyn Adkins added seven points and 29 assists and Jordan Chupa contributed nine points and two kills.

Also for East Liverpool, Morgan Campbell tallied 17 kills and two blocks, Caitlyn Davis delivered four kills and four blocks and Kyle Golden collected five digs.

The Potters and the Red Devils (0-1) met in the OVAC Class AAAA Tournament Semifinals last year at Steubenville High School. East Liverpool defeated St. Clairsville en route to winning the tournament title.

"They have a lot of kids back," Shansky said. "They are a good defensive team. They made us work.

"We lost that second game. Then, we were back up 19-9 in the third game before they fought back. It was a pretty good game. We ended up winning it 25-21. They really fought back. There is no quit in them. They are a good team.

"It was a good win for us. We don't have a lot of experienced kids, but the kids off of the team last year are leading the other kids. The kids are playing hard. We are a work in progress."

St. Clairsville won the JV game, 25-22, 25-21.

Individually for the Potters (0-1), Sierra Nichols scored five points, Sierra Voorhees recorded four points, eight assists and two kills and Elise Smith tallied three blocks.

"It was a good match," Shansky said.

"East Liverpool plays at 5:30 p.m. today at home against Struthers.

Cardinal Mooney d. East Palestine, 24-26, 25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 17-15

EAST PALESTINE - The Cardinals edged the Bulldogs.

The Cardinal Mooney volleyyball team won a 5-game victory Monday at East Palestine, 24-26, 25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 17-15.

Individually for the Bulldogs (1-2), Megan?Brown recorded 11 kills, six blocks and 10 points, Carly Sansenbaugher contributed nine kills, 11 blocks, four aces and 11 points and Kristen Morris dished out 20 assists.

Also for East Palestine, Chelsie Wright tallied 17 assists and 11 points.

The match was the first for Cardinal Mooney (1-0) this season.

Individually for the Cardinals, McKenzie Reese recorded 13 kills, Gina Patella tallied 38 assists and Brie Ozeughan delivered 16 digs.

Also for Cardinal Mooney, Meghan O'Shaughnessy collected 15 digs, and Jacklyn Yawkly tallied 12 kills.

East Palestine's next match is today at home against Columbiana County rival United.
