GOSHEN TOWNSHIP- Police arrested a Salem man for assaulting an officer following a one-vehicle crash in Green Township last week.
Jonathan Edward Dunn, 25, 7250 Salem Unity Road, was charged with assaulting an officer, a fourth-degree felony, after he allegedly spit in an officer's face during an investigation of crash Lisbon Road at 10:55 p.m. Aug. 21. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of operating a vehicle intoxicated, resisting arrest, carrying a concealed weapon and failure to control.
According to police, officers arrested Dunn for OVI after responding to the crash in which Dunn was northbound on Lisbon Road north of state Route 14 and allegedly traveled off the roadway into a ditch. He was transported to the Canfield Police Department to conduct a chemical breath test, after which he allegedly threatened and struggled with officers as they returned him to the cruiser and then spit in an officer's face. An inventory of his vehicle at the Goshen station revealed a police-style baton hidden under the front passenger's seat.
Dunn pled innocent at arraignment Thursday and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sept. 11.
