LEETONIA- The Leetonia school board Thursday night accepted three bids for a new bus for the upcoming school year, but elected to wait before approving the lowest bid.
The board, whose policy states it must accept the lowest bid for purchases, chose to have the bids checked to make sure they meet specifications after a Lima company beat out one from Canfield by $38.
According to schools Superintendent Rob Mehno, the bus from Lima would be different from the rest of the fleet and would only be able to be serviced at the Lima facility. Lima is located approximately 72 miles north of Dayton.
Additionally, the district would not receive the bus from the Lima company for 30 days after the purchase, but the Canfield company would have it available in 5 days, he said.
The board can wait 30 to 60 days to let the bids expire, but Mehno said he expects a decision before then.
