NEW WATERFORD- Police arrested a New Waterford woman on drug charges following a traffic stop for left of center last week.

Chelsea A. Cope, 34, 3618 Silliman St., New Waterford, was arrested for operating a vehicle impaired, driving under suspension, possession of drug paraphernalia and possessing drug abuse instruments following a traffic stop at 8:33 p.m. Aug. 12 for no headlights and traveling left of center after an officer observed her allegedly driving westbound in the opposite lane of travel on Crestview Road.

Cope initially failed to comply, according to police, traveling approximately 15 miles per hour and slightly off the roadway. After stopping, Cope reportedly appeared visibly impaired and failed sobriety field tests.

While performing inventory of Cope's vehicle before it was towed, the officer discovered inside her purse hypodermic needles, some that had been used, and spoon with a white melted substance on it. Other items in the purse included a tourniquet, Band-aides, prescription medication bottles and various loose pills.

Cope reportedly claimed that the items were not hers and that her husband, Jason E. Cope, had framed her.

Jason E. Cope, 36, owner of the vehicle, was cited for wrongful entrustment.
