Tickets sold at door for BBQ dinner

SALEM - Tickets will be sold at the door for the 10th annual Friends Disaster Service Chicken BBQ dinner fund raiser to be served - indoors - from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the First Friends Church on Jennings Avenue. The event features live entertainment, a silent auction and fun for the whole family.

Cost is $10 for the barbecued chicken dinner. A children's hot dog meal is available for $4. Carryouts are available.

'Little Rock' to play at Firestone Park

COLUMBIANA - The Firestone Park Summer Concert Series welcomes the talented country duo "Little Rock" to the stage at the gazebo from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Next-To-New Shop will offer attendees complimentary water and kettle corn. The concert will be canceled in case of inclement weather.

Dulci-More summer concert set Tuesday

breakfast planned

SALEM - Salem High School Class of 1950 plans to meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Mill Creek Golf Course restricted

BOARDMAN -Mill Creek Golf Course, located on West Golf Drive in Boardman, will be closed to the public on Friday, Aug. 24 as it plays host to "The Greatest Golfer of the Valley."

Golf course hours on Saturday, Aug. 25 are restricted due to the play for the annual Community Cup and Cardinal Classic. to play on Aug. 25, call and reserve a tee time. No tee times will be available on a walk-in basis. For more information call the golf course at 330-740-7112.

Diabetes and Stress program offered

SALEM - Registration is still being accepted for the "Diabetes and Stress" program to be presented by Melissa Dwyer, RN, BSN, and diabetes educator of Salem Community Hospital. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 27 in the Quaker Room at the Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St. Registration is required by stopping in or calling the library at 330-332-0042. The program is free of cost and open to the public.

Sebring BP?checks

SEBRING - Salem Area Visiting Nurse Association will provide free oxygen saturation, blood pressure and pulse screens from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Sebring Public Library.

Speech meeting canceled

YOUNGSTOWN - The Mahoning Valley Speech, Language, and Hearing Association get-together scheduled for Sept. 10 at Park Vista Retirement Center has been canceled.

Memorial Building yard sale planned

SALEM -The annual indoor fall yard sale and flea market will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Memorial Building. To reserve a table call 330-332-5512.

Funds donated for honor guard

SALEM -The Salem Disabled Americans Chapter 122 recently presented checks to both the Salem Honor Guard and the Salem AMVETS totaling $950 at their last meeting. The checks were given to the Honor Guard for its continuing service during the funerals for local veterans and to the AMVETS to be used for the gas fund for its van which transports local veterans to VA clinics in Columbiana and Northeast Ohio.

Also to be presented at a later date from the Salem DAV chapter to three VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics (Calcutta, Canton and Youngstown) are gift cards totaling $1,500. The clinics provide health care for veterans. The gift cards will provide for refreshments for the veterans while at the clinics.

'Gowns Galore' sale postponed

LISBON -The Beaver Local "Gowns Galore" sale, sponsored by Beaver Local Football Boosters, will be postponed with the date to be announced.

ODOT?Mahoning work update

The Ohio Department of Transportation has issued its weekly traffic advisory for Mahoning County.

The park and ride lot at the I-80/SR 46 interchange is closed for upgrades through late September 2012. The current parking lot surface will be removed, the parking lot will be doubled in size and a new asphalt surface will be installed. This work is part of a $245,000 project to improve the park and ride lot. The entire project will be completed by late September 2012.

U.S. Route 62 between Mellinger Road and Raccoon Road is closed through Aug. 22 for a culvert replacement. The detour is U.S. Route 224 to state Route 625.

Beginning on Monday, Aug. 27, state Route 165 over state Route 11 will be closed through late November for a bridge replacement. The detour will be state Route 46 to state Route 14 to state Route 164. This work is part of a $2.3 million project to replace two bridges on state Route165, one over state Route 11 and one over Mill Creek. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by August 2013.
