EL?Moose cancels Aug. 17 bingo

EAST LIVERPOOL - East Liverpool Moose Lodge will not have bingo on Aug. 17, due to the state convention. Bingo will resume Aug. 24.

'Arsenic and Old Lace' on this weekend

COLUMBIANA - This is the final weekend for "Arsenic and Old Lace" at the Main Street Theater. Shows begin at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are on sale now at the theater or online at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/238910. Cost is $13 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under.

Food pantry will be open Saturday

EAST LIVERPOOL - Kingdom's Kupboard Food Pantry will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at 49345 Calcutta-Smith Ferry Road.

Wildlife Educatio Center will be open

EAST LIVERPOOL -The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center will be open from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Bluegrass music scheduled Sunday at park

LISBON - Get Out and Push will entertain with Bluegrass music from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Scenic Vista Park on Wayne Bridge Road.

'Car Show and Family Fun Day' planned

EAST LIVERPOOL - Ohio Valley Home Health Services Inc. will host its third annual "Car Show and Family Fun Day" from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at 15679 state Route 170.

Registration for the car cruise will be taken from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Cost is $5.

The first 100 cars will receive a free dash plaque. Trophies awarded in 15 different categories. There will be a live DJ, games and prizes for children, raffles and 50/50s, a bake sale and a concession stand.

The OVHHS will offer a free blood pressure clinic and local ambulances open for children to explore. Admission to the event is free.

Bill Tice Services/BTAS Properties, LLC of East Liverpool is this year's sponsor.

"We (OVHHS) feel very blessed to have such great support from area businesses for the fund raisers and community event that we host. Every event that we have helps us help others, in need of in-home care, with no means to pay. It's all about giving back to the community that has allowed OVHHS to serve them since 1967," said Megan Shimmel, director of community education.

All proceeds from the event will assist in the funding of in-home charity care to residents in Columbiana, Jefferson, Brooke and Hancock counties. For more information call 330-385-2333 or 800-428-3434.

Crestview frosh orientation is Monday

COLUMBIANA - All Crestview freshmen students and their parents are asked to choose a time, either 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. on Monday, to participate in an orientation program, Freshman Focus.

Valuable information and class schedules will be given to students and their parents.

The orientation will be held in the CR Performing Arts Center. To sign-up for a time call the high school office at 330-482-4744.

Port Authority board meeting is Monday

EAST LIVERPOOL - A time change has been made for the Columbiana County Port Authority board meeting on Monday.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the port authority office at 1250 St. George St.

Salem Library board will meet Monday

SALEM - The Salem Public Library's regular board meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the board room.

SCC presenting new swim program

SALEM - The Salem Community Center is announcing a new swim program, Learning to Accelerate your Potential for Swimming (LAPS) which will debut this fall.

The primary purpose of LAPS is to bridge the gap between swim lessons and competitive swimming strokes with an emphasis on promoting wellness and fitness through the sport of swimming.

Participants can look forward to building aerobic capacity and muscular endurance, improving strokes and fitness levels, building competitive skills, individualized goals based on skill level, and friendly competition through optional time trials. Three age groups are available: Tiger Sharks (7-10), Great Whites (10-15), and Adults.

LAPS will run Sept. 9 through Dec. 20 with two sessions per week. Tiger Sharks will practice from 4 to 5 p.m. Sundays and 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays. Great Whites from 5 to 6 p.m. Sundays and Thursdays; and Adults from 6 to 7 p.m. Sundays and 7 to 8 p.m. Thursdays.

Swim lesson programs will continue on Saturdays from Oct. 6 through Nov. 24. Six learn to swim levels are available, along with a Mommy and Me level for infants and their parent.

Cost is $70 for non-members and $55 for members. A multiple child discount is available. To sign-up call 330-332-5885.

Lisbon Pep Club selling T-shirt packs

LISBON - The Lisbon High School Pep Club is selling football T-shirt packs. T-shirt packs will include five different t-shirts for each home game.

The T-shirt packs can be purchased by students, parents and community members.

Order forms are available in the high school athletic office.

Leetonia Class of 1947 planning reunion

LEETONIA -The Leetonia High School Class of 1947 will hold its 65th-year reunion from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Leetonia Community Public Library. A buffet dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m.

Northside Med Center offering classes

YOUNGSTOWN -The following classes are available at Northside Medical Center at 500 Gypsy Lane.

Breastfeeding Class: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 11. The fee is $10 but free if enrolled in Childbirth Class.

Childbirth Preparation: 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 10 and 17. Cost of the two classes is $50.

One Day Childbirth Class: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 15, $50.

New Baby Class: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 22, in the John Politis Auditorium. The fee is $10 or free if enrolled in the Childbirth Class.

RTS Bereavement Services, 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 18, in Building A, Auditorium A.

The Insight Group, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27. This support group serves patients who have had a brain injury and their families, Dr. Pecorelli, Laura Blanco, LSW, CCM and Lynn Payne, LSW, CCM will speak about anger management. The group meets at Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in the boardroom.

Tenanat Education Class is scheduled

EAST LIVERPOOL -The East Liverpool Tenant Education Class is designed to help tenants become successful, stable and knowledgeable renters. This free class will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at Trinity Church, 110 Maine Blvd.

Topics to be discussed include What is Discrimination, Who is Protected, How to Read a Lease, The Value of a Lease, Obligations of a Tenant and Landlord, How to Use Good Communication Skills with Your Landlord, How to Be a Good Neighbor, The Landlord's Perspective and Expectations, How to Explore Any Screening Barriers You May Have and How to Legally Ask for Repairs.

Help Hotline announces new support

YOUNGSTOWN - The Help Hotline Crisis Center has announced that its new Warm Line for mental health consumers is open.

The peer to peer mental health support telephone service number to call is 1-866-303-PEER (1-866-303-7337).

Homeroom lists will be posted at Dixon

COLUMBIANA - Homeroom lists will be posted on the doors on Friday at Joshua Dixon Elementary School.

New student orientation for grades one to four begins at 11 a.m. Monday in the school library. School starts for grades one to four on Aug. 27.

Kindergarten orientation begins at 6 p.m. Aug. 27. Kindergarten KRA-L testing will be done by appointments on Aug. 28, 29 and 30.

Sign-ups for appointments will be taken during kindergarten orientation. Preschool orientation begins at 6 p.m. Aug. 29. The first day of school for kindergarten students and preschool students is Sept. 4.

Leetonia orientation is Tuesday

LEETONIA - New Leetonia Middle School students and students entering the fifth grade are welcome to attend a brief orientation at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Leetonia Schools auditoria.

New Leetonia High School students and students entering the ninth grade are welcome to attend a brief orientation at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the auditoria.

Lisbon food pantry open Thursday

LISBON - The Lisbon Baptist Food Pantry at 6428 Lisbon Road will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday.

School supply giveaway is Thursday

LEETONIA - The Leetonia First United Methodist Church at 50 Lisbon St. will once again have a school supply giveaway from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church for children attending the Leetonia School District.

Congressman Johnson will visit Village

COLUMBIANA - Congressman Bill Johnson will visit Whispering Pines Village at 937 E. Park Ave. from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 23.

He will host a "Sit Down with Seniors" and be available for questions and answers.

Help Hotline training being offered

YOUNGSTOWN - Help Hotline Crisis Center, the county's "one number" to call for information, referral, and crisis intervention, is offering free training classes for people interested in volunteering for the 24-hour hotline.

Classes will meet from 6 to 9:30 p.m., on six consecutive Mondays, from Sept. 10 through Oct. 15 and on one Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 20. Volunteers are asked to make a six-month commitment.

Bluegrass/gospel concert is Aug. 24

BOARDMAN - Admission is free to the bluegrass/gospel concert with Dan Garrett and Limited Edition from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 24 on the lawn at Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Those attending are to bring a chair or blanket.

The concert will be held in the church in case of rain. Refreshments will be available for a donation to benefit Mahoning County Habitat for Humanity.

Crime Watch meeting is Aug. 28

NORTH LIMA -The Beaver Township Police Crime Watch meeting begins at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 in the activity center at Shepherd of the Valley, 9111 Sharrott Road.
