Rummage sale at Southeast Friends

SALEM - The public is invited to a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Southeast Friends Church, 1300 Franklin Ave.

Rummage sale at First Christian

SALEM - The rummage sale, sponsored by the International Mission Team of the First Christian Church, continues from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at 1350 E. State St. Proceeds will be used for the March mission trip to the Dominican Republic.

Pancake breakfast in New Waterford

NEW WATERFORD -A pancake breakfast will be served from 8 to 11 a.m. today at the New Waterford United Methodist Church, 46925 S. State St. Donations will be accepted. For more information call 330-457-7436.

Backpack supply giveaway in Salem

SALEM - The Living Faith Church at 166 Vine Ave. is giving away free backpacks filled with basic school supplies from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The giveaway is open to students in preschool to sixth grade.

Family Fun Fest at Little Friends Preschool

SALEM - Little Friends Preschool will host a Family Fun Fest from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 18. The fest is open to the public and will include train rides, games, face painting, refreshments, prizes and much more. The preschool is located in Salem First Friends Church at 1028 Jennings Ave. For more information call 330-332-4905.

Bible school at Salem Bible Church

SALEM - Vacation Bible school will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 13-16 at the Salem Bible Church, 807 Cunningham Road. The theme is "Two Ways to Go." All children in kindergarten to sixth grade are welcome to enjoy Bible lessons, singing, games, crafts and refreshments. For more information call 330-332-1112.

Disaster Service Chicken BBQ dinner

SALEM - The 10th annual Friends Disaster Service Chicken BBQ dinner fund raiser will be served - indoors - from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 18 at the First Friends Church on Jennings Avenue. The event features live entertainment, a silent auction and fun for the whole family.

Cost is $10 for the barbecued chicken dinner. A children's hot dog meal is available for $4. Advance tickets are recommended and may be purchased at the church office. For more information call the church office at 330-332-0001.

Breakfast offered at Damascus church

DAMASCUS - An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be served from 7 to 11 a.m. Aug. 18 at the Damascus United Methodist Church. Proceeds will go to the youth director's fund. The next breakfast is Sept. 15.

The church will host its annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 24 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 25. Shoppers may fill a brown paper bag for $4 all day on Friday and until noon on Saturday. From noon until closing, the cost is $1 to fill the bag. Larger items will be priced separately. Proceeds of the sale will support the local missions of the Damascus United Methodist Women. A bake sale and lunch bar will be available.

Any donations for the rummage sale in good, workable, and useable condition are now being accepted at the church, 300 Valley Road.

Voice of Hope Dinner set in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN - Catholic Charities, Diocese of Youngstown, will host its 15th annual Voice of Hope Dinner on Sept. 14 at the Maronite Center, 1555 S. Meridian Road. The event kicks off at 5 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres, a Chinese auction and entertainment. The gourmet buffet dinner, prepared by Mr. Anthony's, will be served at 6:30 p.m. Local news anchor Stan Boney will serve as master of ceremonies.

This year's recipients will be honored with Voice of Hope Awards for their work in charity and justice on behalf of disadvantaged people in the Diocese of Youngstown: Dorothy Stoessner, Ravenna; St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Warren; St. John School, Ashtabula; and Sister Edwardine Baznik, SJSM, Louisville.

All proceeds from the event help to provide emergency assistance - food, shelter, clothing, utility assistance and essential medication - to families served by Catholic Charities agencies throughout the six-county Diocese of Youngstown.

Tickets for the Voice of Hope dinner are $75 each ($25 is tax deductible), and can be purchased by contacting Nickole Baringer at 330-744-8451 Ext. 323, or by visiting www.ccdoy.org.

Bible school at West Pint Church

WEST POINT - The West Point Church of the Nazarene will hold a community vacation Bible school titled "Adventures on Promise Island from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 20-24. Each evening at Promise Island children will participate in the excitement of Seaside Celebration, experience Bible stories about God's promises at Lifeguard Lagoon, create service or craft projects at Project Pointe, enjoy snacks and learn more about God's promises at the Coconut Cafe, and play games at Fun Time Falls. Ages preschool through fifth grade are invited.
