Past phone operators to meet

SALEM - Former AT&T-Ohio Bell Telephone Operators will meet for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 16 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

SHS?Class of '47 to meet

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1947 plans to meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Aug. 16 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club. All classmates and spouses are invited.

LHS?Class of '43 to lunch

LEETONIA -The Leetonia High School Class of 1943 is invited to lunch at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 13 at Das Dutch Haus in Columbiana.

DAHS '57 breakfast scheduled

LISBON - David Anderson High School Class of 1957 will meet for breakfast at 10 a.m. Aug. 16 at Taste of Country

Columbiana resident medals

CLEVELAND - Jim Bush of Columbiana has won a gold medal at the NE Ohio Senior Olympics in the horseshoes division. Bush also collected a bronze medal at the State Senior Olympics in Cleveland Saturday. This qualifies Bush for the National Senior Olympics to be held in Cleveland in 2013.

Senior Citizens Day slated

SALEM - National Senior Citizens Day will be celebrated on Aug. 21 at the Realife Church, 12824 Salem-Warren Road. A free luncheon for all senior citizens will be served at noon. Reservations may be made by calling 330-332-0011. There also will be a drawing for gift baskets.

W. PA Cory Assoc. reunion

CHIPPEWA, Pa. -The 103rd reunion of the Western PA Cory Association begins at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Fire Mountain restaurant in Chippewa. Each family will pay their bill at the door. There will be a raffle of one McCowin/Cory History and a cloth signed by Cory members at past reunions. Those who have Cory/McCowin pictures and memorabilia to share should bring them. Foundation meeting held

COLUMBIANA - The quarterly meeting of the Columbiana Community Foundation was held Tuesday at the Columbiana Public Library. Carol Czarneski, chairman of the Screening Committee, presented recommendation's to approve the following grants: $2,000 was awarded to the Columbiana Boys Varsity Soccer team to assist in replacing team uniforms due to an NFHS rule change that becomes effective for the 2013 season; and $5,000 was awarded to the Columbiana Football Moms and Dads organization to replace current dated equipment with a self-propelled Brite Striper 3000 including start-up supplies.

Applications for grant consideration must be received on or before Sept. 1 in order to be considered by the Screening Committee prior to being taken for vote at the foundation's October 2012 board meeting.

Applications are available from the financial assistance area of the foundation's home page at or may be picked up at the foundation office, 11 S. Main St. For more information call 330-482-3825.

R-Weigh rewards winners

SALEM - The R-Weigh weight groups met Aug. 6 at the Faith Chapel. A loss of 23 pounds was recorded. Good losers were Susan Cain and Rose Olenick and Judy Catlett and Ruth Miller were goalies. Rachel Weaver, Peggy Kurtz and Olenick won the monetary can-do drawing. Karen Morris presented the program at the 1 p.m. meeting. Carol Held presided at the 5 p.m. meeting. Jesse Rea led the exercises.

The Home Run Honeys beat the Baseball Babes 24 to 21 winning five of the nine games played winning the baseball contest. The Honeys will be treated like "queens" at the fun night picnic on Aug. 13 at the church. The Babes will plan, bring the food, set-up, entertain and clean-up for the picnic. All members are to bring their table service and a beverage.

The groups also met July 29 at the chapel. A loss of 30 pounds was recorded. Good losers at the 1 p.m. meeting were Helen Baker, Gloria Judy and JoAnne Bogdan. Weaver was the goalie for the week. The Quaker City Hitters beat the Hit & Runs 8 to 6 and won the baseball contest, winning five of the eight games played. The Hit & Runs team will plan and provide a fun day picnic on Aug. 20 at the church.

Good losers at the 5 p.m. meeting were Susan Cain, Ruth Ann Hall, Jeni Alwood and Sandy Shipton. Janel Anderson was the goalie for the week. The Baseball Babes beat the Home Run Honeys 22 to 19 winning the baseball game.

DAHS?Class of '60 to meet

LISBON - David Anderson High School Class of 1960 plans to meet for lunch at 1 p.m. Aug. 16 at Chef's Table.

SHS '63 lunch planned

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1963 will meet for lunch at noon Aug. 24 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Poker run benefit slated

SALEM - A poker run benefit for Brayden Delp will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Salem AMVETS Post 45, 750 S. Broadway Ave. Sign-ups are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $10 per single, $20 per couple, and $7 for non-riders. All street legal vehicles are welcome with the first vehicle out at noon. There also will be raffles, a Chinese auction, food and dancing to DJ Mikey Mike from 9 p.m. to midnight.
