Big Reach Back to School event
GREENFORD - The Big Reach Center of Hope will hold its ninth annual Back to School event from 8 a.m. to noon today at 11767 Lisbon Road. Over 400 pre-registered children will each receive a new school outfit purchased by members and employees of Home Savings and Loan, WKBN 27, WYTV 33, Cornerhouse Christian Church, Greenford Christian Church, Salem Community Hospital and Hospice of the Valley. They will also get a free haircut, a book bag filled with school supplies donated by members and attendees of Greenford Christian Church and personal care items courtesy of Operation Blessing of Chesapeake, Va.
Refreshments will be served including pizza provided by Pizza Hut of Salem and Columbiana, hot dogs courtesy of the Dairy Queen in Lisbon and North Lima, Italian ice from Rita's Italian Ice of Boardman, and cookies provided by Eat 'n Park of Boardman. Banquet in Salem features sloppy joes
SALEM - The Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building. Friends of the Banquet will sponsor the meal which includes sloppy joes, macaroni and cheese, green beans, applesauce, fresh vegetables and fruit, and ice cream sundaes.

Sebring Legion steak fry set

Auditions for Stage Left's 'Pond' planned
LISBON - Auditions for Stage Left Players' production of Ernest Thompson's play, "On Golden Pond," begin at 3 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Trinity Playhouse, 234 E. Lincoln Way. Callbacks, if needed, start at 7 p.m. Aug. 29.
Open auditions involve cold readings from the script. "On Golden Pond" takes place in the living room of a summer home in Maine. It is recommended that the parents of young men auditioning for the role of Billy read the script prior to the audition. Roles to be cast: Norman Thayer Jr., age 80ish; Ethel Thayer, age 70ish; Charlie Martin: age 40-50ish; Chelsea Thayer Wayne, age 40-50ish; Billy Ray, age 13; and Bill Ray: age 40-50ish.
"On Golden Pond" is directed by John Diddle and presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service Inc. Ali Cleland is the stage manager. Performances are scheduled at 7 p.m. Oct. 6 and 13 and 2 p.m. Oct. 7 and 14.

'Stage Combat and Special Effects' class
LISBON - Stage Left Players is conducting a learning intensive "Stage Combat and Special Effects" class, for grades four to 12, from Aug. 13-17 at the Trinity Playhouse, 234 E. Lincoln Way. Instructors Darrell Cleland and Ali Cleland will demonstrate the principles of stage hand-to-hand combat, fencing through techniques and character work. Youth will also learn the art of special effects make-up. Cost is $125 with a $25 deposit due at sign-up. Each participant will receive a basic stage make-up kit and T-shirt. Open house for Riverside Railroad Club

Salem Athletic Hall induction ceremony set
SALEM - The Salem High School Athletic Hall of Fame's induction dinner and ceremony will be held on Sept. 6 at the Salem Community Center. Those selected for the Class of 2012 are Ed Beck '32, Ned Chappell '60, Richard Huffman '86, David Hunter '60, and J. Robert Sebo '54.

Cost is $25 per person and includes dinner and beverage provided by the Catered Affair. Tickets are available on a first come-first serve basis.
