YSR Brass Band due at Firestone Park

COLUMBIANA - The Firestone Park Summer Concert series welcomes the YSR Brass Band from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Firestone Park gazebo. The band is composed of music students from Youngstown State University and Slippery Rock College under the directorship of Eric Bable. They will be playing popular, classic and movie-themed favorites. Gamma Eta Sorority will host the event and offering free bottled water and popcorn to attendees. The concert will be canceled in case of inclement weather.

Banquet in Salem features pork sandwiches

SALEM -Friends of the Banquet will sponsor the Banquet in Salem from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Salem Memorial Building. The menu offers hot, open-face pork sandwiches with gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, fresh vegetables, fruit and ice cream sundaes.

Beaver Local sets meeting on bond sale

LISBON - Beaver Local School District will conduct a community meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the high school auditorium to provide information regarding the sale of bonds relating the successful bond issue from the March 6, 2012, ballot. The district anticipates a public offering of the bonds on July 31. The bonds will be sold with maturities up to 28 years in minimum denominations of $1,000. The purpose of the meeting is to provide further details for community members who are interested in knowing more about the bond sale and may be interested in placing orders for the securities on the date of the bond sale.

The district's financing is conducted by Stifel, Nicolaus & Company Inc. and the law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP. Interested parties should attend the meeting or contact Tom Phillips at Stifel Nicolaus, 8286 South Ave., Boardman; 330- 599-4794.

Southern Local BOE?to meet Tuesday

SALINEVILLE -The Southern Local Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in room E136. Personnel will be hired.

Elkton-Fairfield Homemakers picnic set

LISBON - Members of Elkton-Fairfield Homemakers will meet for a picnic at noon July 24 at the home of Thelma Adams. Those attending are to bring a casserole.

Salem 1950 breakfast planned

SALEM -The Salem High School Class of 1950 will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Guilford Lake Civic Association to meet

GUILFORD LAKE - The Guilford Lake Civic Association will meet at 7 p.m. July 26 in the Ruritan Hall on Route 172. The guest speaker will be Matt Backhaus, fish management unit leader of the Ohio Division of Wildlife. Columbiana County Health Department has been invited to send a representative to address water testing. The meeting is open to all who wish to attend. Membership in the association is not required. Summer steak fry planned at Links

COLUMBIANA - A summer steak fry begins at 5:30 p.m. July 26 at the Links at Firestone Farm Banquet Center. Proceeds will be directed to the Joy of Christmas Light Show. Guests will enjoy appetizers, strip steak, a baked potato bar, local fresh sweet corn and dessert. Wine and beer will be provided by Chalet Premier and strip steaks by Horst Packing. Entertainment will be furnished by Silver & Gold. The minimum suggested donation is $8 per person. Reservations are required by Tuesday by calling the Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau at 330-482-3822.

A brief presentation by Larry Deidrick, tourism president, and Vice President Terry McCoy will take place following dinner discussing the opportunity to participate in the creation of 60 potential light spectacles that will be on display at the Joy of Christmas light show Nov. 16 through Christmas Day. North Jackson Yard Sale Days

NORTH JACKSON - North Jackson Citizens Association's Community Wide Yard Sales Days begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 3 and 4. Approximately 150 sales with addresses listed are on a map available at 11349 W. Mahoning Ave. and area businesses beginning Aug. 3. Live music will be provided by Steve Frazzini. All funds are used for donations to Jackson Milton Schools, Kids Kupboard, fire department, Christmas programs, Memorial Day and the Fourth of July parades, Meet the Candidate nights and supporting youth projects and school events.
