KISSIMEE, FLA. - William R. Shoop, 86, of Kissimmee, Fla., died Sunday, July 8.
Born in Pittsburgh on June 27, 1926, he was the son of the late William F. Shoop of Salem and the late Anna Wills Shoop Abel.
William was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. While not a part of the troops landing at Normandy, he did serve on a naval ship assisting with the D-Day invasion.
After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service, he lived briefly in Costa Rica, then returned to central Florida to be closer to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Ellen Shoop; two daughters, Darlene Kennedy and Charlene Lackey; and A son, William C. Shoop, all of Florida; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers Ron Shoop of Chesapeake Beach, Md. and Bob Spanbauer of Salem; and sisters Dorothy Long of Salem, Doris Yeagley of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Gretchen Whitman and Cathie DeFazio, both of Lisbon.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Jackie and Marlene; by two brothers, Charles Shoop and Frank Spanbauer; and by his parents and his stepmother Alma Shoop.
A memorial service will be held in Florida at a later date.
