Gymnasts compete in AAU championships

POLAND- Five area gymnasts from Kathi's Dance & Gym Center (KDGC) in Poland competed in the 2012 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Gymnastics Age Group National Championships in Wisconsin Dells, Wisc. June 20-24. With the help and support of their coaches, Chris Bednarik and Chad Cleland, three KDGC competitive gymnasts received National All-Around Titles for their age group and level. Sixteen districts, 88 gyms and over 1,000 female athletes competed at this year's AAU Age Group National Gymnastics Championships.

- Abby George, 9, a level 5 gymnast, is the daughter of Terry and Theresa George of Salem. This was Abby's first national competition and she placed first on Bars, sixth on Beam, third on Floor, eighth on Vault, and received third in the All-Around.

- Grace George, 14, a level 7 gymnast, is also the daughter of Terry and Theresa George. Grace received first on Bars, first on Beam, second on Floor, first on Vault and placed first in the All-Around, giving her the Age 14 Level 7 National Title.

- Celina Gaudio, 17, a level 7 gymnast, is the daughter of Tim and Karen Gaudio of North Lima. Celina placed first on Bars, second on Beam, third on Floor, seventh on Vault and placed first in the All-Around, giving her the Age 17 Level 7 National Title.

- Samantha Smith, 12, a Prep. Optional, is the daughter of John and Shannon Smith of New Middletown. Samantha had her personal best score on beam. She placed 16th on Bars, 15th on Beam, 21st, on Floor, 24th on Vault, and received 20th in the All-Around. This was the largest age group in the competition.

- Zoe Weaver, 15, a Prep. Optional, is the daughter of Rita Weaver of New Middletown and Rick Weaver of Enon Valley, Pa. Zoe placed first on Bars, first on Beam, second on Floor, third on Vault and placed first in the All-Around, giving her the Age 15 Prep. Optional National Title.

All five gymnasts and KDGC recognized the businesses that sponsored them this year: Signature Granite Company in North Lima, Lou Vari's Transmission of Youngstown and Roth Bros. of Youngstown.
