WINONA - The Winona Ruritan Club held its annual Ladies Appreciation and dinner on June 26 at the Saxon Club. Thirty members attended and each member introduced their guest. Homer Althouse, John Gamble Sr., Buster Rogoswsky, Jim Coy and Chip Althouse grilled the steaks and chicken breasts for the 63 in attendance. The remainder of the meal was catered by Borza's Meat Market of Lisbon. Song leader Elmer R. Stamp announced that one member, Don Sanor, celebrated a June birthday. The following six members and their spouses observed June wedding anniversaries: Gordon and Janet Dawes, 30 years; Wayne and Betty Jane Herron, 50 years; Homer and Gerri Huperich, 48 years; Bruce and Ruth Marhefka, 45 years; Dennis and Carol McArthur, 47 years; and Donovan and Marilynn Winn, 57 years. The club will sponsor a hole at the Columbiana County Special Olympics golf outing.
A donation was made to the Ohio District Ruritan to cover the cost of transportation for two United Local Ruriteens to the summer youth conference in Virginia. Zone 4 Governor Jim Means thanked all members for their hard work in Ruritan and for the donation to the youth program. President John Stamp presented scholarships to Nicole Jackson and Matt Kleinman. Nicole is the daughter of Shelly Jackson and the granddaughter of Tom Sanor. Matt is the son of Jerry Kleinman and Shannon Kleinman and the grandson of E. Lee Stamp and great-grandson of Elmer R. Stamp. Both recipients plan to attend Kent State University in Kent in the fall.
Entertainment was provided by eight members of the United Local Concert Choir. The board of directors will meet on July 17. The monthly meeting follows on July 24.
