Former phone operators to meet

SALEM - Former AT&T-Ohio Bell Telephone Operators will meet for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. July 19 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

SLHS?Class of 1979 to hold reunion

SALINEVILLE - The Southern Local High School Class of 1979, and their guests, are invited to a reunion at 6 p.m. Aug. 4 at Mark's Landing Restaurant at Guilford Lake, 33220 Charlton Drive. Aaron Buxton family reunion slated

SALEM- The 88th Aaron Buxton family reunion will be held at noon Aug. 5. in pavilion one at Centennial Park. Those attending are to bring a coverdish, family history information, old photos and a gilf for raffle. There will be a 50/50 drawing. Homemade ice cream will be served after the meeting.

R-Weigh recognizes weight loss

SALEM- The R-Weigh weight groups met Monday at the Faith Chapel church in Salem and lost 36 pounds for the week.

The good losers for the week were Diane Hart, Jean Swartz, Jeni Alwood, Judy Baker and Joanne Bogdan. Jesse Rea and Peggy Kurtz were the goalies for the week. Roni Fauver won the can-do drawing.

Karen Morris presided at the 1 p.m. meeting and presented a program on Calorie Density Counts. Carol Held presided at the 5 p.m. group and led a group discussion and Jesse Rea led the exercises.

The day groups Quaker City Hitters beat the Hit & Runs 12 to 5 winning the baseball game. Shirley Dias and her granddaughters, Taylor and Sidney entertained the afternoon group with a comical baseball skit before the baseball game.

The night groups Baseball Babes beat the Home Run Honeys 26 to 23 winning the game. The Hit & Runs and the Home Run Honeys have won 3 games each and the Quaker City Hitters and the Baseball Babes have won 2 games. Four games remain to be played to determine which team hosts the annual picnic.

CCPERI 59 holds meeting

LISBON- Chapter 59 Columbiana County Public Employee Retirees Inc. met July 9 at Taste of Country in Lisbon with 23 present. The guest speaker was from Better Business Bureau. The next meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sept. 10 at Taste of Country.

Historical society to host picnic

COLUMBIANA- The Historical Society of Columbiana and Fairfield Township will hold an "Old Fashioned Picnic" at 6 p.m. Monday at Firestone Park Pavilion #1. Chicken and beverage will be provided and members are asked to bring a covered dish to share. A summertime program, "Spittin' Watermelon Seeds," will be presented by Shirley Griffin from Salem. She will be telling about and bringing watermelon memorabilia.

Whispering Pines hosts July 4 fundraiser

COLUMBIANA- Whispering Pines Village in Columbiana held its annual Fourth of July Extravaganza on July 3 with a Chinese auction featuring 28 donated baskets. The event raised $2,350 for the American Cancer Society/Relay for Life.
